Q: if i install mavericks will my macbook pro support airplay

I just purchased an apple tv and am trying to find the airplay mirroring application on my macbook pro. I have read that macbook pros need to be a newer model from early 2011 or newer, but mine is from mid 2012 and I still cannot see the airplay mirroring icon when I go to system preferences or display preferences on my computer. I am currently in the process of downloading the mavericks application, will this help me use airplay via my apple tv?

About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

Thanks to the $15 Beamer, AirPlay streaming is still possible on Macs that do not support Airplay and mirroring.
Other solutions are the Air Parrot, StreamToMe, and AirServer.
