Ipad 2 screen does not work

Ipad 2 screen does not show anything. It is on: you can unlock it, hear sounds, and the baclkight turns on and off... but there's no picture displayed, just a black screen. Tried resetting it (holding home and power buttons) and tried to restore it, but no luck. any help is much appreciated.
