Cannot resume iTunes downloads

The downloading of apps and content may be one question where the resume download button works but what about the resuming of software updates to itunes and iPhones etc? Reading the community forum it appears that this problem has existed for years with out being properly addressed.

I am constantly struggling with this error. I do not have fixed line broadband. I am in a rural location and only have 3G broadband. It works perfectly fine but when a download drops out (often right at the very end) it will mean I am wasting many gig's of data for an item which I can't retrieve unless I restart the download using this expensive 3G connection with limit data capcity.

For example my plan allows me 4.5 GB per month. I attempted to download iOS 7.0.3 update twice yesterday and I wasted almost 2GB trying to get a 1.19 GB update. I have given up because I only have 2GB for browsing left for the month and I CANNOT RESUME DOWNLOAD of this item.

Hi, I have exactly the same issue, but I'm on a 4G plan and so get even less allowance.

It's frustrating because I also get errors but there is no RESUME, only a RESTART. The Apple KB states to check for downloads, which RESTARTS, and the recycle icon next to the entry in available downloads RESTARTS the download.

It is surely one of the most basic functions of any download application to be able to pause and RESUME a download. The downloaded data must be stored somewhere (and I know that it is in the temp folder), so why can't a muti billion dollar company make this function avaliable in a piece of very mature software?

Seriously, come on Apple......

Just had this same issue while updating Mum's iPad (via iTunes) on their home 3G mobile broadband. Download got to 70% and the network dropped out.

Usually I wouldn't mind this 'restart' at my house where I have unlimitted ADSL2+, but out here in the sticks that just used a 1/3 of their monthly data.

The update was via her Mac mini running Mavricks.

tsk tsk tsk Apple... You used to be great 😟
