Q: OS X Mavericks: Finder closes and restarts

Since the last update (the last i-Books update I think), the Finder closes and re-starts almost every one minute...

This wasn't happening at the first 10 days that I had Mavericks installed. I have already ran the "Repair Permissions" from the Disk Utility, but not thourgh the recovery mode though.

It is so annoying.

Quitting Google Drive quitting worked for me. I discovered this during troubleshooting on my own and this discussion validates that this is the fix. Talked to Apple Support about this. I guess it's Google's problem, but no information on their support discussion group yet.

Yep, the issue was definitely Google Drive. Thanks for the tip. This only happened for 30 minutes but it was driving me up the wall.

If you uncheck "Show file sync status icons" in Google Drive preferences, the crashing will stop. Found this on the Google Product Forums. Google Drive will then be usable again.

Re: Kappy cloud drive. Be warned people. Its not 250gb for free! I installed the software and it's a 14 day trial period, then monthly fee.

    Uninstalled now.

@MrPiv: Did they mention any timeline when this will be fixed and how you can get notified? Can you please provide the link in Google Product Forums?

Would like to know as soon as it's possible to activate GD or at least that symbol option again.

    Thanks.

This actually works. This is the best solution so far since I really need google drive. I think it is the same as with the iOS 7 upgrade and the cables. Apple doesn't want the people to use Third party products or third party software anymore...

If that is really the case, they need to make good products again. When iCloud / MobileMe came out, it was brilliant - same for the XServe, etc. All upgrades since then are really really bad and try to force you to get more and more integrated. For me, it became the opposite. I am becoming more estranged from Apple products. How in the world can you create a cloud service which only syncs Apple files - no word, no excel, nothing????  Now the people started to move away from the iCloud and Apple starts to program bugs (in my opinion on purpose) so that the people stop using the googledrive.

All the last upgrades made the so-called apple experience more and more unpleasant and I am a heavy user of their products for years!!!

Wow, thank you so much. Not only was Finder freaking out for me, but my computer kept switching between spaces, literally every 30 seconds. I couldn't get anything done. I was seriously about to cry and scream in frustration. I'm pretty sure this fixed it. Thank you soo much.

Google Drive causes this crash and it's important to note that there is a solution as explained by "MrPiv" :

Insync, a kind of GD replacement, doesn't crash finder either.

Dogweather - thanks - was running Google Drive - disabled and Finder has returned to normal.  Nice find!

Thank you for this. Google Drive was definitely the problem. Saved me a trip down to the apple store.

I don't think google drive was the problem but Apple and their incapabilities were the problem. The solution was to shut down google drive or switch off "show file sync status"

I think it is a slight misconception between problem and solution... The problem was definitely with Mavericks and not GoogleDrive!

Same issues here. Started yesterday evening. Closing Google Drive did the trick, but I'm looking for a better solution. I will try the trick described in this forum. Just switched to Apple computers because of their stability. Hope they use the input of these forums. So far, thanks for the ideas and suggestions described.

I can appreciate the sentiment, however... Mavericks has been out in Beta for a long time, more than plenty for Google to test against it - this one should have been shaken out early on.  OS X isn't perfect, but app developers on OS X (any platform for that matter) need to be accountable for their software to work here - a cost of supporting ongoing upgrades.  I do use Google Drive from time to time, but I am pursuing the issue with Google who has to make this work on OS X, not the other way around.  My two cents as a developer...

You are right Flynnstra. It was not a very rational reaction. Just personal frustration about computers not doing what you expect them to do. Thanks for your two cents ..
