the new pages doesn't auto capitalize

last week i updated my pacbook pro to maveriks, and with this comes a new version of pages. i updated and started typing away at a research report. when i went and looked back at the paper i realized none of the words at the begining of my sentences where capitalized. how can i fix this? ive looked all over the preferences and i cant find anything.
