fcpx uninstall w/ fcp7 on same hd

Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)

fcpx

fcp7

Hi,

Fcpx initially opened properly after installing, but will not open after trying to import a large file.

I just installed it onto an unpartitiioned drive/ system that already had fcp7, motion 4, etc - final cut studio. I was not able to install fcpcontent.dmg (fcpx supplemental content) after installing fcpx because it said: fcpx supplemental content can't be installed on this disk. A qualifying copy of fcp was not found. This didn't make sense because i had a qualifying copy of fcpx installed as i understand it since it opened up originally.

I need to know if i should uninstall fcpx since there's already fcp7 on the same hd? If so, what's the proper way to do so since fcp7 is already installed and i need it for other projects. I mean i can't exactly uninstally fcp studio folder as it's needed for fcp7. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, but my question was how do i uninstall fcpx with fcp7 already on the system since the below instructions say i need to uninstall in 3 and 7. Since fcp7 is already on system will i not be trashing fcp7 stuff when i do 3 and 7 below? When i go into the folders directed below it doesn't delineate between fcp7 and 10. it says what it says below.

Removing Final Cut Pro X
Follow the steps below for the version of Mac OS X that you are using.

OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

OS X 10.7 Lion

  1. In Finder, choose Applicationsfrom the Go menu.
  2. Locate the Final Cut Pro application and drag it to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, hold down the Option key and choose Library from the Go menu.
  4. In the Library folder that opens, open the Application Support folder. Move the Final Cut Pro folder and the Apple Qmaster folder to the Trash.
  5. Return to the Library folder and open the Caches folder. Move the "com.apple.FinalCut" folder to the Trash.
  6. Return to the Library folder and open the Preferences folder. Move the following files to the Trash:

  7. com.apple.FinalCut.LSSharedFileList.plist
    com.apple.FinalCut.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile
    com.apple.FinalCut.plist
    com.apple.FinalCut.plist.lockfile
    com.apple.motionapp.plist
    com.apple.motionapp.plist.lockfile
    com.apple.prokit.plist
    com.apple.prokit.plist.lockfile

Hi Tom,

Fcp7 and fcpx are installed on my internal drive. fcpx is in a folder marked final cut 10 no quotations. fcp7 is free standing in the apps folder meaning it is not in a folder in the apps folder.

Shall I do what Ian suggested in his response?

To uninstall FCP X use this excellent free app

http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/

Just make sure that only FCP X is selected otherwise it will trash FCP 7 etc.

1. Do you think this is a sound plan relative to the supplemental content not opening?

2. If i do what you said in last reply do you think that will solve the problem of fcpx not fully opening. It hangs when the compressor is loading in start up.

3. If yes to 2, what is the correct name of fcpx? and where exactly is the root level?

Thanks
