Swapping HDD from 2006 to 2008 Mac Pro?

I have a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 (2.66Ghz Dual Core Xeon) with a 2.5TB hard drive that works flawlessly. I just purchased a used 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 (2.8Ghz quad core) that only has a 320GB hard drive. Can I just put the 2.5TB hard drive from the 1,1 into the 3,1 with no issues? Since the HDD in the 2006 pro is so much larger, I'd like to use it. The 2.5TB drive has 248.35GB of data on it (which includes OSX Lion, and all of my programs.)

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Basically, yes. A very small number of settings, such as those in the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, won't carry over, and some commercial software may refuse to run.

IF you had been talking about a 2009 or later model, there is one more step needed. There was a major board re-design at that point, and the processor board was split into a Backplane board and a slide-out Processor Shelf.

The take-away is that the sled design also changed, and you would have to swap the drive onto the different sled to get it to mate correctly.
