Mavericks: Outlook 2011 forgets passwords.

Help!

I have Mavericks and Outlook 2011.

Every time my computer goes to sleep, it forgets the passwords it needs for my Gmail accounts in Outlook.

It only happens when it sleeps. Otherwise I stay signed in just fine.

I get an error message that says something about "invalid account or password." I re-enter my password when prompted, and then it resumes working just fine.

Why is Outlook forgetting my passwords?

(I do constantly check the "remember my password in Keychain" checkbox; and I have checked my profiles to make sure the passwords are saved correctly in Outlook.)

This is super-annoying.

Try going into Keychain, and on the Keychain menu, hit "Keychain FirstAid". Then type in your system password, and select repair. I just did this, and it fixed a couple issues associated with the imap.gmail.com keychain.

This IMAP account is on our own domain hosted with a local ISP. We are running numerous IMAP accounts from Windows Outlook 2013 cients, and I am running an iMac and a MAcBook Air both with OS X 10.7.5 using Outlook for Mac 2011, all with no problems.

We plan to try the Keychain suggestions, re-creating the Outlook password entry and running FirstAid, and see if that helps.

If we don't get this resolved we will move to a POP3 setup, if it appears this issue is confined to IMAP accounts.

Thanks for the help. When will software writers get their head in the game? What can be more important than Email. Why wouldn't they beta test the most important applications?????

They pester you to upgrade. They make icons jump up and down so you will upgrade. I wonder if it has ever occured to them that if they stop makeing "upgrades" a problem people would upgrade without being forced to?

Can't thank you enough. Every day since updating to Mavericks I have repeatedly entered my password....it became like a daily routine. After a while I didn't even bother selecting "remember in my keychain", since I knew it wouldnt.

Today I found your post and since I am a stubborn man tried it. It worked.

Can't thakn you enough :-)

After trying App Nap and Keychain repair; I finally managed to solve my issue (Outlook for Mac forgetting my gmail password) by logging on to google site and generating an Application Specific Password (ASP) and using this password in outlook.

I hence would suggest that you sign into your gmail account on google and under security options; generate an Application Specific Password (ASP) and use this password in outlook.

Cheers and all the best.

I had this issue with OS X, not with Mavericks. Now I've upgraded to Mavericks, and I have a different issue with Gmail passwords.

I have two Gmail IMAP accounts. One appears to be working fine. For the second account, I keep getting this error message:

"Mail could not be received at this time. The server account for "[my account name]" returned the error 'invalid credentials xd7mb164271vdb.' Your username / password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?"

I keep re-entering my email address and password. (I'm sure I'm doing it correctly.) And each time the message pops up again.

Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas for how to solve it?

Thank you soooo much for this, you are 100% right it solves the problem and no one else on this or any other forum knew about this. I still have to fill in my password when I open Outlook for a gmail and bigpond account but not hotmail, which I don't understand. But as long as I can work with Outlook, I don't care. For others it's not got anything to do with imap or pop as it happened for both with me and this solved it for both.

Many thanks again!! 😍

I'm having the same issue. We run a Kiero mail server with IMAP and ever since the 10.9.2 Update, Outlook can not remember its password. The app nap suggestion does not solve the problem. I also had a similar issue with the svn after updating. deleting the self signed cert in keychain solved that problem, however, I have tried simular things to resolve this including using keychain repair, but it didn't help.

FYI Mac Mail appears to work without any issues, although I don't like it nearly as much.

I think this is the result of a bug in the new security refinments for OS 10.9, but I'm just not sure.

After $99 and multiple sessions with Microsoft Support and implementing all of the fixes described in the posts in this Forum as well as a couple others suggested by Microsoft Support (e.g. change the iCloud email account Outgoing server to "p06-smtp.mail.me.com" and "587"), the password prompts continue popping up in connection with my IMAP iCloud account (and the same was the case with my Gmail account before I got rid of it). This problem does not occur with either of my two Exchange accounts. Microsoft's final verdict was to direct me to this Forum and tell me Microsoft has no fix for this problem at this time. Microsoft thought 10.9.4 might fix it, but it hasn't. Microsoft said Apple was having the same issues within Mail but seem to have fixed Mail. Microsoft puts the blame on Keychain and the fact that it does not continuously remember IMAP account passwords.

Hi Everyone,

I had the same issue for a few months and the solutions suggested in this forum did not help me.

I did find a solution which worked for me.

1. Navigate to tools and accounts. (top of the screen).

2. Select the e-mail account in question and click advanced on the bottom right.

3. Then uncheck the box with the text "Use IMAP IDLE if the server supports it".

This did the trick for me.

I hope this helps 🙂

Kind Regards,

THANK YOU!!!! I actually have the same issue described in the original post - i have 4 email accounts in outlook on my iMac: 3 business emails and 1 gmail, and EVERY time i return to my desk and wake my computer up, i get an error message for every email account, prompting me to click either YES or NO. If i click NO, the message disappears and nothing seems to go wrong. If i click YES, then i need to enter the password for that account, and once entered, nothing seems to change. But it happens EVERY time the computer sleeps and then wakes up. Also, when i leave my desk, i get my emails all day long on my iPhone and iPad. However, when i wake my computer up, AFTER clicking through all of those dialog boxes, i see that my inboxes have not updated since the last time i was sitting at my desk. Throughout the day, i flag emails to address when i sit at my desk, but when i sit down, they are not there yet. And as soon as my computer goes to sleep, all the spam filtering and rules that are in place on my outlook just stop working, and i receive all of the crap email that should end up in the spam folder so i never see it.

Hopefully this solves that problem! Thanks again!
