If it's not in the app store, for the iPad anyway, then no. The iPad will only run what you install from the app store. On your mac, if it's a version that will run on the software version that you have (as in let's say you have OS 10.8 as long as the software is compatible for 10.8 you should be able to install it)
So you're saying that even though I already have an Office 365 subscription for my PC and laptop
, it will not work on my iPad?
Not until the apps are released in the App store. Once they are released, you can download and install them on the iPad.
Microsoft just released versions of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint for iPads this week (yesterday? Day before? not sure). They are free downloads, but do require an active Office 365 subscription to be of much use.
You are responding to a thread that is several months old.
Microsoft just came out with apps for iDevices. I haven't read up on them because I don't plan to get it, but my understanding is that the apps are free, but to create or edit content you need the office 365 subscription. So it may work now.
I also understand that it's not a universal app, meaning that if you have both an iPhone and iPad you'd need to buy/download each version. (no idea if your office 365 subscription works on any device or if there's a limit)
I'd read up on it in the app store and possibly over on Microsoft's site (it's their app, it's on them to explain and support it) and then make the decision best for you.
The post I responded to was dated 28 March, 2014 @ 10:56 AM. But I see your point. Thank you.

And my respnse was to that poster.
He was talking to Phil, who's the person that revived the old thread. They probably just picked it up off the 'more like this' and didn't notice the date.
Not enough sleep, coffee deficiency. Apologies.
No problem. Go get coffee.😎
