Can I coordinate Aperture on multiple machines?

I Am stymied using Lightroom because the catalog must reside on the local machine and not an a NAS device. Since my wife and I both need access to the photo database, this is a problem. Does Aperture give me a work-around for this problem?

An Aperture library needs to be on drive formatted MacOS X Extended (Journaled), so a NAS will not work. Also, Apple recommends to use locally mounted volumes, see:

Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library

To share an Aperture library between two computers the best option would be a sneaker drive, alternately plugged into the computer where you are using it. Only one user at a time can open the library anyway.

No, there are not. Aperture and LR are single-user databases. The best work-able solution for you using Aperture is to put the Library on an external drive, mount the drive as needed, and have one or the other of you work with the Images in the Library.

There are multiple-user image databases on the market (Extensis Portfolio, Canto Cumulus). They are usually considered not cost-effective for personal use.
