iPad Air - turning on and charging?

Hi again!

Two very basic questions coming up ...

1) When I turn on my iPad Air, should I hold the button at the top down whilst simultaneously swiping across the screen at the bottom? I'm having trouble with this. I press the button for a couple of seconds, but if I let it go, the screen goes black again. So I press again and it asks if I want to cancel turning it on. Swiping along the bottom takes away the cancel message fine, but I'm just not sure I am turning it on in the best way. When I finish using it, I turn it off with the top button. Is there a different way to put it to sleep?

2) I am charging the battery for the first time now. I turned it on to start this, but I see it has gone to sleep. Can you charge it without turning it on? How would you know when it was fully charged if the screen is black?

Thank you.

There are 2 ways you can choose to turn it on. Either pressing once on the button at the top. (Sleep/Power) and then letting go, and swiping the bottom bar.

Or 2 pressing the home button at the bottom of the screen front and again swiping the bar.

You should not need to hold them down at all. just a press and release should be all it takes.

Sleep does not mean its off. its in standby mode, using less battery than normal but still performing tasks liek mail retrieval and other updates.

The iPad will got to sleep after a while whether its being charged or not. IT doesnñt matter.

If you need to know the status of the battery, simplñy press the Home button once to turn it on and you can then see the battery level on the screen under the time.

I suggest you read give the manual a read here:
