I was going to order a new iPad Air and Mini, and I don't see the Smart Cases in polyurethane in the Apple Store any more. I really like the ones I have and would like the same in my new iPads. Are those discontinued? Any third parties have anything comparable available yet?

That article's referring to Smart Cases for older iPads being discontinued. I'm talking about Smart Cases for the new Air and Mini, which only seem to be available in leather now.
Well, the iPad Air has a different design than the older full-sized iPads, so Apple took this opportunity to dump the old Smart Cases in urethane for both models. I'm sure a variety third-party cases will be available soon.

Why on earth won't Apple release a polyurethane Smart Case for the iPad Air?! I don't want to pay $79 for that fo-leather and the Smart Cover is dreadful. They had a polyurethane Smart Case for the last iPad. Grrrr. My iPad Air is still sitting in a box:(
I am sooooo bummed after reading this thread. If anyone finds a similar case to the Smart Cover for the Air, I sure would appreciate a link.

There is a polyurethane smart case for the iPad Air and iPad mini retina.

The Smart Case is only available in leather for the iPad Air and that leather material ***** (fingerprints, flimsy, etc).
You may be able to get the old Smart Case cheap and 2nd hand off eBay or Gumtree.
I live in UK and found faux leather click in smart case on EBay . Fits well and works fine . Only cost £9 delivered .There is same on Amazon UK .
