How can I save my cards made with iPhoto to a document file?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
"document file" is pretty vague. Do you mean a photo? a word processing file? a pdf? something else?

To save it as a pdf
File -> Print and then choose the Save it as a PDF
