How do I convert mp4 files to mov files for use in Quicktime?

Use the QT 7 Pro or MPEG Streamclip "Save As..." option to the audio and video data from the MP4 file container to an MOV file container. This is not a conversion since the data is not actually transcoded. If you really want to convert the MPEG-4/AAC data to different compression formats, then use an export to QuickTime option and select the specific audio and video compression formats you want to put in the MOV file container.

There are so many video converters on Mac app store and you just need to download one and do the conversion quickly.

Hi, I recommend you the iOrgSoft video mate. In the software, QuickTime MOV format has been customized and preset for users' option, which brings a lot of convenience. what's more, it can not only convert mp4 to mov, but also do conversion between various video formats.

It is a little bit surprising that you want to convert MP4 movies to open it with QuickTime, because QuickTime should be able to read / play these kinds of movies.

May be you would get some better hints if you describe

    - what kind of MP4 movies do you have (extension, video compression format)

    - why can you not open it with QuickTime (or what happens if you try to)

    - which Mac OS X version are you using

According to Apple Support Website, QuickTime can only support MPEG-4 (.mp4, .m4v), but MP4 is a complex video container with various video and audio codecs. That's why sometimes QuickTime plays MP4 well, sometimes doesn't.

Here is a solution I just found on Macrumors forum as following:

To solve QuickTime won't play MP4 issue, a strongly recommended solution is to convert all kinds of MP4 videos and movies to QuickTime more compatible formats.

Hope it will help you more or less.

Well, you can use mp4 to mov converter, it will help you in converting your Mp4 as well as other several video formats to other various format. With this software you can convert AVI, 3GP, Mp4, MKV, DivX, XviD MPG, etc into MP4 video file. You can try the demo version and it works successfully then you can go for full version. However, the demo version will not have full features.

QuickTime well supports videos in MP4 format, you don't need to convert MP4 to MOV. If you still want to do that, you can use Video Converter for Mac to do the MP4 to MOV conversion.  Here is a guide on How to Convert MP4 to Any Other Format.
