I have the Iphone 4 and my screen is black i can hear the phone ring when someone is trying to call me but i cannot answer it nor will the screen light up. can you please help me fix this

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.

I tried holding the power button but the phone will not turn off or reset, any more suggestions
Have you tried the power button and home button at the same time?
i just tried calling my phone and using my bluetooth to answer which works but i really need to get my screen working again

Sometimes these fancy smart phones get confused, a reset usually fixes it, though I have no idea as to why it happens.
