Right off the bat, you have some "crapware" installed.

Completely uninstall MacKeeper from your system.

http://www.macexpertguide.com/2012/11/16/uninstall-mackeeper-2012-2011-mac/

Also, Western Digital drives are proving problematic on OS X Mavericks.

Try disconnecting this drive to see if this also a cause of your Mac's performance issues.

Also, disconnect your USB hub to see if performance increases.

Sometimes USB hubs can be an issue on OS X.

If possible! see if there are any needed drivers or updated drivers for the hub to work more reliably on OS X Mavericks.

It looks as if your Mac has antivirus installled. It is NOT neccessary with OS X and can, also, slow down your Mac and affect system performance and generally cause more issues than it solves.

Completely uninstall this antivirus software per the developer's own instructions.

Also, some of your hardware, like your attached drawing tablet may, also, need, updated drivers for OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

Your system is so extensively modified it defies description. It's surprising that it runs at all.

Start by uninstalling MacKeeper:

MacKeeper belongs to a broad category of time- and money-wasters capable of causing system corruption that can only be rectified by reinstalling OS X, restoring from a backup, or completely erasing your system and rebuilding it from the ground up. Get rid of it and test your Mac for operation. If it does not perform normally, the possibility that using MacKeeper resulted in system corruption must be considered.

Uninstall MacKeeper by following these instructions exactly as written. They have been tested with the most recent version of MacKeeper (v 2.8) and last year's version.

Earlier versions than the one released in 2012 require more extensive work to uninstall all its components.

  • If you used MacKeeper to encrypt any files or folders, use MacKeeper to un-encrypt themfirst.
  • Quit the MacKeeper app if it is running.
  • Open your Applications folder: Using the Finder's Go menu, select Applications.
  • Drag the MacKeeper icon from your Applications folder (not the Dock) to the Trash.

You will be asked to authenticate (twice):

User uploaded file

You do not need to provide a reason for uninstalling it:

User uploaded file

Just Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. You will be asked to authenticate again.

After it uninstalls you may empty the Trash and restart your Mac. All that will remain is an inert log file that does nothing but occupy space on your hard disk.

In addition:

Logitech device drivers are not compatible with Mavericks.

Soundflower appears frequently in crash reports and its support forum is moribund.

Uninstall Micromat TechTool Pro. It's useless and has probably contributed to this or other problems.

Check their respective developers' websites for updates to Parallels and Virtualbox.

SIMBL "enables hacks and plugins" that are likely to cause problems.

There may be other programs and system modifications contributing to the instability you describe, or the instability may be the result of having used them. There are so many such modifications present that it may be easier for you to completely erase your Mac and reconfigure your work environment from the ground up.

I noticed that you are using a few. app products from MicroMat.

While MicroMat products are generally helpful and useful, some of their data protection functions can interfere with normal OS X operation and performance and can cause additonal slow downs, too!

Try disabling any of MicroMat's data protection functions to see if this is also a cause of your Mac's system slow downs, also.

Nov 5, 2013 9:55 PM in response to MichelPM

I deleted MacKeeper (I had NOT used its encryption) by following link above in MichelP'spost and did get the screens you cited, so I hope the deletion was successful.

I removed two WD external disks, restarted and things already appear better (but not completely fixed yet).

I do not know which apps are MicroMat other than TechToolPro. I opened TTP and got an alert it had not been tested with OSX 9.0. So I Quit the application.

As for USB hubs I have never encountered anything about needed or upgraded drivers for such devices. I will check manufacturers.

Also I do not know what you mean by attached drawing tablet?

Nov 5, 2013 10:03 PM in response to pwwwayne

In your Startup items listing, it lists a Hyper Pen tablet driver starter.

Indicating some sort of input pen and tablet hardware.

This may also be causing some performance issues if it isn't compatible with OS X Mavericks.

In your Top Processes list, it lists something called AntiVirus.

You need to find a way to completely uninstall this app or quit the app or process.

Nov 5, 2013 10:09 PM in response to pwwwayne

In additon to MicroMat TechTool Pro, you have MicroMat Checkmate installed.

IMO, it looks as if CheckMate is a redundant app that has much of the same functionality as the full version of TechTool Pro. I would simply uninstall this app per the developer's instructions.

I went to the MicroMat site to look at this app. TechTool Pro does everything that CheckMate does plus more.

Completely uninstall/delete this app. It is a unnecessary redundancy.

All these things are suspect. Turn them off in Login Items in your User Prefs. Uninstall what you don't really need.

Especially TechToolsPro

Thank you again. I will un-install CheckMate.

I checked my USB hubs in System profile and they were made by Via Labs, Inc. and Terminus Technology, Inc. (and Apple); did Google search and will follow-up.

I know nothing of a Hyer Pen Tablet driver, so will have find way to remove that.

Similarly Top Proccesses list and AntiVirus is unknown to me. Obviouly will need to remove it.

I agree these are crap items, should be trashed, if I can figure out how!

Nov 6, 2013 2:36 AM in response to pwwwayne

AntiVirus is unknown to me.

That's part of MacKeeper. If it's still there, you must not have gotten it uninstalled correctly.

Honestly, you've got so much junk installed I'm surprised your computer can start up at all. The only thing I would advise doing at this point is wiping the hard drive and starting over from scratch. There's just too much crud gunking up your system, and there's no way at this point that you will ever find it all.

Incidentally, for future reference, AppZapper and similar apps should be avoided. They aren't reliable. When uninstalling software, if it used an installer, there's only one way to remove it: use the uninstaller provided by the developer of that software. Anything else is inadequate. The developer knows what goes where and what needs to be removed. For apps that didn't require an installer, generally dragging them to the trash is adequate. There's no need to bother hunting down things like preference files that are doing nothing more than taking up 0.000001% of your total hard drive space.
