HELP! my iMac continues to freeze every 10 sec!!

Hi!.. I know there are thousands discussions about this but I haven't found solution for my problem in some I read.

I updated Maverick and worked fine for some days, suddenly two days ago, rainbow spinning wheel appears every 10 seconds, then freezes, I have to wait 30 to 40 seconds until the command I gave to the cursor works... and basically that's been the story for the last three days... I can't do much work in all day, and it's freaking me out!

I assume it has to do with Maverick, but I really don't know.. I hope someone could give me more ideas.
