Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

I'm just writing to say that I'm having the same problem here. I went to the Apple Store and after telling me that it was an app problem they finally gave me another iPad, but the problem keeps persisting. Today it crashed two times in three hours. I can't understand how Apple is not giving solutions to this issue.

I hope that everybody having this problem share it so they know that it isn't something isolated.

Here's my story ...... iPad 1 running like a dog, ok time for an upgrade... delighted and excited to recieve a iPad air 32Gb WiFi as a birthday present in early November.

Ok so after a week or so experienced the safari crash ... thought nothing of it but as I used it more and more it became more and more apparent.

Contacted apple (via phone) and went through the usual restore .. same problem. Was told to take it into apple store to a Genius (as nearest store is ~60miles away finally got there last weekend). They restored and did a few things bit as soon as they handed it to me I made it crash .. this site does it without fail ..

    http://9to5mac.com/2013/11/08/a-week-with-the-ipad-air-in-three-words-believe-th e-hype/

What's interesting is this also crashes the daughter's 2nd gen. BUT there is hope. My partners SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 2014 handles it with ease - so my loyalty to apple products has caused me a massive annoyance and it's getting worse.

Thankfully John Lewis agreed to swap my Air for a new boxed one (as there is no way I would accept a 'serviced unit' from apple). I recieved the new Air this morning (THANK YOU JOHN LEWIS) and set it up as a new ipad (no restore from back up) wanted this crisp and clean.

Got on to safari and yes you guessed it ... it crashed in the same manner as the previous one (Low memeory error in diagnostic log)

Why did I not just take a refund from JL and buy a Samsung - I wish I could turn the clock back 2 days ..GUTTED

SO APPLE - Pull your finger out here ... don't give us the bull that it only happens on some websites .... I don't care .. If it wokrs on a SAMSUNG NOTE, my DELL LAPTOP then it should work on my Ipad air which cost more money than both !

PLEASE ADVISE NEXT STEPS .. I am close to throwing my air out the window like a boomerang, but hoping it doesn't come back (at least until this fundamental problem is fixed)

Current opinion ... BUY A SAMSUNG NOTE !

Actually I think he is better than Jobs in this regard, with Cook Apple seems a bit more humble and a bit more open. Just think about the public apology over Maps vs. Jobs' shockingly arrogant "You're holding it wrong"...

As for being frustrated, you bet I am: 2 and a half MONTHS (with several more MONTHS to go for an unlikely *possible* solution) with an almost useless, buggy and probably hopelessly flawed, expensive flagship device while being fed BS by Apple support and told *nothing* about what the issue really is and *if* and *when* a GOOD fix is coming.

Any other company by now would be (rightly and deservedly) publicly trashed by everybody on any media with the "tech press" leading the charge. With Apple, nothing.
What they tell you is that this is the first they hear about a problem with iOS7/the Air......

Thats why I returned mine after a couple weeks (after trying two different Airs) - the aggravation factor was unbearable.

The iPad 4 with cellular I bought as a gift. When I tried to put iBooks on it;  lo and behold, Apple will not allow you to install iBooks unless you upgrade to IOS7. I contacted Apple and they said I could not load books on the iPad from iTunes without iBooks. So I HAD to upgrade that device to IOS7 so the recipient could read books on it. Totally lame.

I will be completely honest, one some one said well no one here is going to any other tablet that is a lie.  I have my 32gb Ipad air sitting on my desk as a paper weight.  Sadly I am past my return time as I have been dealing with apple support from the first week of purchase.   So I went out and bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition and as simontaff Stated my samsung tablet handles this site with ease both on Samsungs internet and Chrome browswers running at the same time....  http://9to5mac.com/2013/11/08/a-week-with-the-ipad-air-in-three-words-believe-th e-hype/

I havent given up on apple yet they have 1 week before i sell my Ipad air on craigslist and been done with them.  This is unacceptable to be told that "you just have to wait for the next software update and maybe that will fix it, that is all we can do right now" is complete and udder BS.  Like I said earlier and someone re-iterated it apple is treating its customers like mushrooms...  keeping us in the dark and feeding us S@#$!!!  I could care less about visual tweaks to the iOS 7, I just want a stable platform.  Also I too have noticed that on the tablets it says they are running Iphone OS 7.04.

The funny thing is that my iPhone 5 runs perfectly fine...  I think im going to abandon ship and never look back this is rediculous.

    - Great review

What a refreshing change to read a comprehensive and honest appraisal of frustrations and issues from a users perspective.

No hype, glossing over the issues or denial. These frustrations exist with Android too!

Just read the blogs for issues with KitKat (even and perhaps especially on Googles own Nexus 5).

Having read the acknowledgement from Evernote’s CEO to recognise the problems with their software and a commitment to spend time and money fixing the issues (rather than developing new buggy features), maybe others could learn from this.

We do want the OS to ‘just work’ and we do want apps to do what they promise.

Maybe every associated business should take a year off from developing new ‘bells and whistles’ to concentrate on fixing their current offerings. Wouldn’t that be truly exciting and welcome!"

Whatever the issues with iOS 7, 64-bit devices need more than 1GB RAM.

I loved the part in the article where the author told his own readers to shut up in his second body of text.

Also data wrangler, i'm confused? What does the galaxy note 10.1 have to do with the ipad devices?

There is so much advertising of other products going on in this thread it's hard to take some of you seriously...

So i'm still not understanding how bumping this thread every single day, crying about your ipad, and advertising other products is going to fix this software issue some of you are experencing?

Clearly some of these posters have different motives then just genuinely wanting to figure this out, because there is nothing left to figure out but you still persist, day after day night after night..

I'm surprised the mods haven't shut this pointless/useless thread down for good. It has officially evoled from the " Ipad air low memory crash " to " Lets all flame apple, if I can't enjoy my ipad.. they all have to be broken! "

The specs on the galaxy note are somewhat of a red-herring, although the issue is probably RAM related. To make an Apple's to Apple's comparision, the problem is most prominently occurring on iOS devices with an A7 CPU as oppsed to not occurring on iOS devices with A6/A5/A4 chips (all 32bit).

When an A7 equipped iOS device runs out of RAM, it should ask backgrounded processes if they would be so kind to free up memory if they can, and I'm not sure that's functioning quite right on new devices (A7 CPU).

If Apple hadn't made the system so RAM starved, you would probably see this issue happen less frequently, but it would still occur. There is an underlying OS issue. Memory management must be handled differently in 64bit.

I would also disagree yet again ( surprising )  that all Ios 7 devices 64 bit need more then 1gb of RAM. As I have 0 crashes and low memory reports on my iphone 5s running the 64 bit and the 1gb of RAM obviously.. So if it was a true problem with all Ios devices that followed those specs, we would all be experiencing the problem. The only thing filling my log is Low battery reports because I always wait until the last second to charge. data wrangler, I would try to resist saying things that are just blatantly wrong. You think your perception is keen enough to speak for us all? Well you're wrong.

Look I am not advertising for the galaxy note on here, I was simply stating that since my iPad Air is a paper weight right now, to glitchy and safari and chrome both crash on it trying to do the most remedial tasks online, for example as I have stated browsing craigslist or trying to set your location on craigslist.  I went and bought a samsung galaxy tab.  I am trying out my samsung tab right now i have 27 days to return it.  I hope apple can atlest tell me if there is a fix or atleast give me my money back at this point until a better tablet of theirs comes out.

I also see the same issues on my wifes 16gb Ipad mini gen 1 that is 32 bit architecture.  The mail app crashed several times just trying to read a few emails.

    Humans,

my friends iPhone 5s crashes all the time with low memory errors.  If your 5s hasn't crashed then consider yourself lucky.  If you read the article that was recently posted http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/01/09/apples-stuff-doesnt-just-work-anymore/

you would also see that a lot of these issues are random in various devices not all devices are affected because the user is the greatest variable of all.  Yes you are correct in the fact that blanket statements are not always applicable.

I pose this question to you...   If you say, based on customer reviews on all the major retailers websites, that there is no problems with the iPad air line of iPads, then why did Apple Support customer service that I have been dealing with for the past 4 weeks on this issue, sending crash reports and log files daily, admit there is a problem with them and they are working on trying to fix it with several updates?   ( this was a phone converstation I had with them last week)
