Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

My iphone 5 shows 1 x low memory log, nothing on the phone terminated that I was aware of.

My ipad air, for the same period, and with roughly the same usage shows 30 low memory logs - most of which resulted in the app I was using (mostly Safari) terminating.

We have aan ipad 2 and an ipad mini in our household - both of which have a couple of low memory logs but nothing terminating.

There is clearly more of an issue with my ipad air, and I'm just about to book myself in with the apple store. If they say they're unaware of problems I'll be pointing them in the direction of this thread!

    No problem

My question was made only to better understand the problem.

    Ciao!

Oh I understand.  I truly feel bad for anyone who is not getting as much enjoyment from their iPad as I am.  And I fully expect Apple will fix this in a software update.  In fact one member in this discussion has been very forthcoming of his evaluation of the upcoming iOS 7.1 (which the mods have not deleted even though discussion of upcoming software releases is against the terms of use of this forum) that it has completely resolved his reboots and crashes.  Patience my friend and this too will be a memory in the past..........

    rbrylawski,

I am sure you told us once, but when did you get your iPad Air?

it doesnt matter if you send diagnostic logs to Apple or not, they still are recorded and are viewable.

I would think someone with 9,000 points from helping others would know something so simple as that.

    rbrylawski:

I can still see the logs even though I turned off sending them to apple....  Just had safari quit again....  Doesn't call it low memory just identifies the app, date and name of device plus .plist

Maybe we are talking about something different.

Well my iPad says No Diagnostic Data.  Don't know why.  Maybe it's because I synced and back up all devices last night, but when I go into Settings > General > Diagnostics and Usage > Diagnostic & Usage Data it says No Diagnostic Data.  And this is on all 4 devices which were synced and backup last night.

I ordered my iPad the day after Thanksgiving.  It arrived about a week later and went into service on Christmas Day.

    rbrylawski,

So in theory they made your Air sometime after you ordered it.

Being that you and others have reported having no problems, yet others report no end of problems - I can't help but question the possibility of hardware quality assurance problems with the first batch of Airs made before the November 1 release date. This in no way excuses any potential memory management issues of iOS 7.0.4.

It would be interesting to know the manufacture date of the "solid" Airs vs the "flaky" ones.

One thing is certain, the iPads on display in the Apple Stores are almost certain to be first production models. If there was an early production problem these would have problems ... and by all reports they do.

    A) many (most?) Airs are solid

    B) some are unquestionably flaky

    C) some people don't notice the flakiness

    D) others are just beginning to notice it

I don't have a 64-bit iPad, but I do have a 64-bit iPhone 5s. I also have the original iPad. I want to buy a new iPad, but when I do I want better performance and stability than my iPad 1. That is why I follow this thread.

I personally think that 64-bit deserves at least 2gb RAM, but I could be persuaded that 1gb RAM is enough if iOS 7.1 improves the stability.

So I follow this thread. Commenting from time to time.

I am equally concerned by the number of old and new folks reporting problems. I am also concerned by Apple's silence on this.

I am not suggesting anyone switch. I personally have too much invested in the Apple ecosystem to switch.

I will have to sync mine and confirm what you say.  If it is true I am going in for a new iPad air with this thread as evidence.  I must have a bad one.

Or, as I pondered in a previous post, you may have apps on your iPad, which for whatever reason, are not stable on iOS 7.  Since a replacement iPad will be a refurbished device, there's no guarantee you'd get one that is any better than your current device.  You can do as you deem appropriate, but I'd wait for iOS 7.1 and see if your problems disappear.

Yes, in theory, my iPad could have (likely was) built at least around the time I ordered it.  There are two people in my office with iPad Air.  Neither is having rebooting or crash issues.  They were Christmas gifts.  I ran into a man at Starbucks yesterday, who is having with his Air, which also was a Christmas gift.  I'm not convinced when they were made makes any difference.  I do think the variables of so many different apps being operated on a device could make a difference.

Safari is not an App I can delete nor should Pages be an issue.  They are all Apple Apps and that is what has me discouraged.  I have already reported this issue and have an active case.

They better give me a new model or I will be the squeaky wheel they don't want to see as I have plenty of time and a store near me.  I didn't pay extra for AppleCare  to be treated to less.

Your reporting that you have no problem is exactly why I think I have a hardware issue.
