Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

You have said the name samsung multiple times, you have literally been here since 2013 saying the same things over and over about how apple and the ipad are crap.. we get it, anyone who thinks i'm kidding please look at this guys post records. He isn't the only one either.

I understand you are annoyed with apple, but you continue to use brand names and specific competitor tablet names.

Hosts please help this living breathing advert find the door.

Since you wemdog have already sold your ipad and moved on, you are no longer required here.

    Have a good day!

Also the only sheep here are the people that live and breath this stuff, from reading your profile and judging from the anger within your responses.. this has literally been a mini quest in your life. One isn't a sheep because they arent concerned enough, you are the sheep because you are concerned all the time. These are new devices, and with every " new " thing the kinks need to be worked out.

Please find another hobby besides coming here and flaming the apple forums.

Maybe Apple is delaying a fix because this thread is getting so interesting.

    Wemdog,

Before washing your hands completely, would you be so kind as to go to

       http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

and provide Apple with feedback. It might help the rest of us.

    Goodby and good luck

    Data Wrangler,

I will do that for you guys.  I am also still pursuing the issues with my Wifes Ipad mini first gen with Apple support.  If I hear of any fixes I will let you guys know.

I will still be lurking around this forum, I wish all of you who are having the issues like I was good luck and hopefully a fix will come out soon.

This discussion has been swilling the tank for quite some time.  This will be my last post at least until the 7.1 update arrives.

For those new to this discussion, all evidence points to memory management shortcomings with the current version of ios7. It appears that the latest, 64 bit versions of the ipad, ipad mini and iphone are more prone to problems but older devices upgraded to ios7 can also be unstable.  Reports indicate sign octant improvement can be expected with the ios7.1 update to come in a month or so.

The severity of the problems encountered appears to depend on individual use patterns and device settings.  As mentioned in comments buried in the dreck of this thread, there are things you can do in the meantime to reduce instances of problems.  Some have dismissed these indignantly, and to them I have limited sympathy:

    Turn on reduce motion

    Turn off background app refresh

Close running apps you don't need open

Don't use the favorites bar in safari

Some other background processes that may be useful to limit or stop:

    Automatic downloads

    Location services

    Cloud sync services

    Mail push/fetch

    Siri

Any process that uses memory is a candidate.

Safari is Not going to run every web page anytime soon.  Website developers who want their sites to run on safari tablets need to code in the sandbox. That being said, the current version is unstable and that is where most of my now-few crashes still occur.

Best wishes to all.  I like my Air and I'm keeping it.

The iPad Air is a true multitasking tablet. The Apple A7 CPU has two execution cores. The iOS kernel is built on task preemption.

The opinion that "iOS7 is bug-riddled garbage".. that ruins the experience.. is valid though!

The one thing I hadn't tried was turning off the favorites bar in safari.  Now I can open that buggy 9-5 link.  So now I am willing to wait until the next software release.

    Thanks!!

    Blob,

I was simply saying the Ipad Air no longer fits my needs, it has also been said its not a true multi tasking platform because, as one user has stated, you cannot look through safari while youtube videos load.  The Ipad suspends the youtube app while you are on safari.  Also while in safari it always reloads the pages when you switch from tab to tab...   The A7 chip may support multi tasking but you cannot open two different things on the Ipad and have them both on the screen simultaneously...  therefore it is not a true multitasking device.

The iPad Air is an impressive peice of hardware dont get me wrong, for MY NEEDS the iPad Air is not enough.

I hope I'm not asking a dumb question, but how do you turn off the favorites bar in Safari? Is it simply a case of deleting all your favorites?

    Thanks!

In Settings under safari.  Turn the show favorites bar off.  You can still see your favorites when you open a new tab.

I'm afraid I either don't follow you or it doesn't work. I go to Settings > Safari > Favorites, but then the line is permanently marked with a blue "v". If I click on it nothing changes...
