Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I have said on this tread that my Air had problems which were resolved after the "fix" I used.

This has been the case with a few exceptions. Today I did a street tour of a prospective neighborhood I am thinking of buying into. If any of you have ever used Google Maps Street View, you know this places heavy demands on the processor/memory.

I was tapping on the road cursors very fast to advance down the road and the Air did the unexpected close to home screen. However nothing was lost. I simply tapped on Safari and I was right there in the same location just prior to the crash. I just had to slow down a little. This happens a lot on my more powerful desktop as well.

I use the Air for approximately 90% of the time as a personal assistant. I can also do website editing with my Air with no problem at all. For heavy work such as graphic art etc; or for applications not available on the Air, I use the desktop. Maybe I'm just using the Air in a relaxed way and not expecting to much from it. After all it is just a tablet (an expensive one true enough) not a powerful desktop or laptop.

My Air was indeed affected by these low memory crashes but now working to my satisfaction. I will continue to watch this tread and offer insights or suggestions.

Sorry what "fix" do you use??? Could you explain it to me? I'm in contact with Apple support from November and I haven't resolved my roblem of crashes and reboot yet

I'm having many of the issues described above

Bought my ipad air November 12, 2013

Did not purchase apple care, I usually never buy extended warranties

Any thoughts on  buying AppleCare  now not knowing where this low memory issue will be heading, I realize no one knows where this will all end up

If I remember right sales on day of purchase said i had 90 days to go back to store with ipad to be inspected if I wanted to purchase AppleCare

Sorry, I just did not want to repeat myself. It was the clean wipe as new and hard wire re-install of iOS 7.

Some here here said it did not help them at all and a few said it mitigated their problems.

First of all, since there are still folks claiming there are "good" and "bad" iPads out there, let's reiterate this:

I (and several other posters here) have NEVER seen an iPad Air which doesn't crash and/or isn't unstable and unreliable when "stressed" (i.e. actually USED like it's supposed to), it's NOT that it's a minority of iPad Airs that have problems, it's a minority of USERS that notice them.

It's exactly like the iPhone4's Antennagate and the iPad3's inadequate specs, these 2 products have what with hindsight EVERYONE today knows to be inherent design flaws. Apple admitted to Antennagate giving out free bumpers and even lost a class action suit IIRC and Apple implicitly admitted to the second by releasing the much improved and upgraded iPad4 few short months after the launch of the iPad3 (which had too slow CPU/GPU and too little RAM to handle Retina).

I remember threads just like this one at the time (I was just a lurker back then) with lots of folks defending Apple and saying their own iDevice was fine... well, as later admitted *by Apple itself*: B.S.! ALL of those iPhones and iPads were exactly the same, hardware-wise, and would behave exactly the same under the same conditions!! Some of those deniers were simply very light users who didn't (couldn't) NOTICE the flaws, some other ones had evidently other motives I don't want to speculate on, here...

I am more and more convinced that, iOS7's bugs aside, the first gen 64bit iDevices have hardware design flaws just like some other iPhones and iPads before. In this case, too little RAM (an absurdly constant issue with Apple) and the 64bit architecture which is not supported by mature and stable software. Fixing the latter I think will take quite a bit of time, fixing the former is of course not possible.

Also, it's NOT third party apps that are causing this because they happen also in perfectly stock iPads which have been set up as new.

Now, with this out of the way, this is my last post on this thread and I don't care what I will be called but let me tell you this: 2 days ago, when I put my Air up for sale, I also bought my new tablet, I am not going to say which brand or even which operating system it runs lest I be called a troll from the competition, the only thing that I am going to say is that it's ROCK STABLE, it's incredibly powerful, it has rid me of the anxiety of not knowing when something will go bad/crash/force close making me lose whatever I was doing and, simply, it's just a joy to use.

Its mobile operating system has REAL multitasking (and the benefits are HUGE), it has MUCH MORE than 1 lousy GB of RAM (and the difference in practical use is HUGE) and can be set up with multiple accounts (which for a tablet, that normally stays at home where there are normally other people too, can be a very useful thing), it has a USB host capability (can read and write USB pen drives and hard disks) and can use many more USB periferals, can exchange files with a PC with simple and fast drag'N'drop, has a flipping user manipulable FILE SYSTEM and can be connected to a mouse (via bluetooth, via wired USB or even with a proprietary USB dongle!)...
And you know what the saddest thing is? From my description you are not able to tell if I am talking about a Windows or an Android tablet because BOTH of them have all of these features!! The only mobile operating system living in the past, being left behind and being relegated to the less tech-savvy folks is iOS!

To all those suggesting partial "fixes" like CRIPPLING the features and SLOWING DOWN while using this supposed state of the art software and hardware combo called the iPad Air: are you listening to yourselves?!?

I switched to a different brand and operating system and I am actually doing (much) MORE and (much) MORE quickly thank you very much!!

Is this a rant? You bet it is! But the only thing that matters is: does this make anything that I have written here any less true.....?

I can imagine what kinds of reply I will get from some folks here but you simply cannot refute the facts I listed here, you can only shoot the messenger but don't worry, I won't let the door hit me on the way out...

I am 100% positive that if you were to IP some of these posters they would be the same person, i'm also positive that while some of these people are here to genuinley fix a problem or try to understand it, many others aren't.

These same people have nothing better to do then sit here every single day ( since last year ) and repeat themselves day after day after day...

Do I think some people are having real problems who really want to figure this out? Yes.

Do I think all of these people here are naturally this persistent? No

Do I smell something fishy in this thread? Yes, I've been smelling an entire fish market since 2013.

The adverts for samsung and android are all over this thread, start from page one. I even see some kindle adverts for god sakes.

This is so pathetic. If someone is here stating that they are going to an android device, don't sit there and analyse them and call them out as a fraud and a plant. Let them go. If that suits them then that's ok. If they are a paid plant then let them go.

This thread started as an informative thread so people could compare experiences, ideas and even vent a bit against the shortcomings of the ipad air. And it appears from people here and others I know outside of here that some expel are having major drams with their use and others no so major at all.

The last 20 or so pages of this thread has so much childish angst here that it is pathetic!!! Yes there are a lot of people here with no more than 10 pts (me included). Obviously more experienced heads aren't going to waste their time here.

So if you drink the koolaid, are a fanboy, or love your android stuff good for you and go with what suits you but stop the drivel. If you have something interesting and informative to say then please do.

It doesn't seem anything will/might change til ios7.1 gets released so let's see if there is improvements ahead.

Let's move on people. And stop witch hunting.

I realized what I wrote in haste (and remember that English is not my mother tongue) and I *quickly* edited (the time available to edit posts is limited as you may know): " I didn't mention Samsung nor singled Android out".

Since the post we were talking about was just above our last ones, only someone as smart as you would try to say I didn't mention something I just mentioned...

The point is that you CANNOT REFUTE WHAT I WROTE, what I wrote is UNDISPUTABLE FACT.
