Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Posted somehwere already not sure if it was here. i've got a rebooting air. Wnet into the store & James had gracefully exchanged it. Still rebooting though not as bad a before I think. Had it restored from iPad 3, am being told it may help to set up as new but not convinced. it's an inconvenience and no guarantee it'll work so would rather wait for an update. Tried still wallpapers ,it seems to somewhat help but still rebooting/respringing now and again. Up to 15+ low memory logs a day. Other days just 3.

    entitled*

And i'm not the troll, you people are the trolls. Some of you are adverts, some of you are flamers, and a very very very small portion of you genuinely want to fix your ipad.

    Cool story, bro.

It's so crazy with all these adverts and flamers. I was like, "Whoa, look at all the trolls, adverts, flamers, and the very very very small portion of people who genuinely want to fix their ipad." My mind = blown

Well considering the way you speak to others, I don't think it would take much to overwhelm your sinapsis.

I think you meant synapse, unless of course you like to randomly throw Spanish words into English sentences.

Please, can we just keep it on-topic? I'm actually looking for a solution to my problem here, but my inbox keeps filling up with off-topic (complaints about) trolling.

And who are you to talk about money when you don't even own an iPad Air.

You're the troll advertising Android littering up this post, trying to downplay the real problems which Apple has acknowledged.

Until there is a fix we can complain all we want about the products we actually purchased.

Just because your iPhone works for you, (if you even have one) doesn't mean it works even close to the iPad Air.

Ive checked this software "System status" and it says in "memory-tab" that in normal use air has only 40-80mb free memory..

    Hi FinlandiOs,

this is what I am noticing too: when you start the Ipad you have more than 400 MB free.

As soon as you open a Browser (or a "heavy" app) the free memory decreases very rapidly, with an amount of RAM very limited (<80 MB) like you said in you post.

Hence the low memory crashes happen...

I found that the safari browser no longer crash/ run out of memory when I opted not to open new tab at the background.

Apple replaced my iPad Air a while back but the problems remained even though I reset it using iTunes.  I was afraid they would forget about me after having replaced my iPad Air so I called with the renewed request for help.  I was advised that the problem lies with the data and there were badly behaving apps in the app store.

The suggestion was that I reset the app using iTunes (so the OS gets totally reinstalled) and then NOT restore my apps and data. But install the apps one at a time from my purchased list in the app store.

Since this suggestion means I lose ALL my data I was wondering if anyone here has tried this method?

    Thanks, Barb

Barb, don't do it. The senior Apple Advisor I've talked with even says it won't do anything.

Apple is working on a fix, but support people aren't all reading the memos.

Many of us have started with brand new devices and only basic Apple apps. Same crashes.

Ask to talk with senior advisor.

    Good luck.

Please see my posts on page 10, 12 and 14.

My senior Advisor suggested the same thing. I did it and the problem has been greatly reduced to almost nil. After wiping my Air clean as new, with a hard wire re-install of iOS7 and adding my 79 Apps one by one, I have had a total of 5 unexpected crashes to home screen since November 30, 2013.

I understand the Air is just a tablet (an expensive one) not a powerful laptop or desktop and don't expect it to perform like a Mac Book Pro or my powerful desktop. I use my Air probably 10 hours a day. For more intensive work I use my desktop.

When I did the procedure my Air was only 30 days old. I did not have much data on it and also had my iPad 3 which I could transfer data from.

Long answer, it worked for me.

... I forgot to add ... My Advisor said that wifi updates of iOS7 can sometimes corrupt iOS7, so it was best to do a hard wire re-install. I had this done at the Genius Bar at the store where I purchased my Air to document my problem.

According to my Advisor, Wifi updates will only send data that your given Air requires as opposed to a hard wire re-install which will send the complete file. My Advisor said this is verifiable and can be seen by their engineers.

The problem is really serious right now.  But thanks so much for your help. Appreciated.
