Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Ok, so I am def not a computer person so hang with me.. I read several pages of this thread and can't really determine if I will continue to have issues w/ my 7 day old air. I was reading an article via Safari and the air just went back to the home screen several times in a row. One of those times it showed the apple logo and then went to the home screen. No updates are needed. issue? What is-in lay men's terms- is the problem? Should I get a refund or is there a simple fix for this very annoying issue?

    If it was me.....

If what your ipad is doing now is giving you the ......then take it back and revisit it in March after the operating system gets upgraded to ios 7.1. Hopefully this thread will have a few productive insights to how it will be going

If you're enjoying your ipad AND HOW it's working now then hang on to it and the release of ios 7.1 might improve it

In a nutshell if you don't won't to commit to yet then take it back and wait for early-mid March to see

Personally, apart from needing to workaround a few shortcomings of my ipad air, I'm happy with.

It is a product I would recommend with heavy provisos. Other users would not touch it with a ten feet pole due to their needs and it's shortcomings

I also think that if the ipad air is not fixable with ios 7.1, perhaps the next ipad is not that far away - within 3-6 months? (Who knows?)

Having 1Gb on the Air is not the problem. It's hard to know for sure the cause but that iBooks is what's crashing continually, I have nothing but the OS, ver. 7.0.4 and the iBooks Application.  Even with no books on it, iBooks still crashes.  One GB is plenty.

Remember, this heavy crashing on iBooks started with 7.0.4--not before--and only on the Air.  iBooks does not crash on the 5s and not on Mavericks.  But whether it's the Air or 7.0.4 or only when both are used together, I am sure a fix is forthcoming, whatever it is.

That doesn't prove Air doesn't have enough memory.  It does demonstrate that for "some" memory management is an issue.  I'm still someone who has an Air, with about 150 apps (including iBooks) and my Air has never crashed or rebooted.

Could be due to the low processing space and the fact that there's a bug in iOS 7 that has iOS 7 devices randomly crashing. Just google it if you don't believe me. Their trying to fix the bug for the 7.1 releases. If wanna free space I find it's the pictures that take up most of my storage.

    Hello,

I  have an ipad air 32gb wifi.  since I have the ipad air from December 23 it has reported over 60 low memory crashes and a lot of other crashes. The ipad air some crashes fully with a reboot. We also have an ipad 2 with more or less the same apps but it's does not crash.

I do not have the impression it is a true hardware problem, but there is something wrong with the ipad air.

I am not sure how this gets resolved. I do not believe in support of Apple. Like Microsoft virtually not existing.

So unless magic happens you are stuck with a broken device.

I preferred the ipad air over the Samsung 10.1 tab 2014. But with reading about the issues with the ipad air I am lesser sure if at the end it was the right choice.

    Brgds, Bas.

Wow I have heard of reason for this such as some or most 32bit apps keep crashing on 64bit architectural Apple devices (iPad Air and iPhone 5s) and that iOS 7 is having random crashes (I think due to syncs) hopefully 7.1 will completly fix this problem with 64bit Devices but I also have the random crash with my iPhone 5

    Hello George,

You could be right. Ipad 2 64gb wifi is of course 32-bit. I just checked the ipad 2 for crashes. Nihil, zero, nothing.

As mentioned both have more or less same apps and  iOS 7.0.4

    ipad 2 64Gb wifi 7.0.4 no crashes

Ipad air 32Gb wifi 7.0.4  tons of crashes, low-memory, drive, stacks+timed, safari.

Luckily you have more faith in big companies like Apple to address these issues. I expect apple just to force you to the next gen ipad that offers a fix for this. With the chance of a next issue with that one.   Do not get me wrong Apple makes great devices, but if some thing is wrong with them your kind of left alone.  This my experience with big companies and the issues i had, be it a car, computer, vacuum cleaner.  we are just consumers.

    Brgds, bas.

    inetbas,

    My 2¢ ...

Apple rushed the 64-bit Air, Mini, and 5s out the door in time for the Christmas buying season. They either didn't know about the problems with iOS 7 and the A7 64-bit CPU or they did know about it and planned to address it with an iOS patch after the fact, hoping no one else would notice. By in large no one did notice save for a few (dozen?) very vocal members on this thread. In light of the millions of shipped units, statistically no one noticed.

    Just waiting for iOS 7.1

Or, by and large, very few people have the problem.
