Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Hey genius I've never used multiple tabs on chrome and it's crashed 6 times today. It's not whining it expecting my $900 iPad to work properly.

Restoring was on the large fruitless. Albeit it does seem to lower the number of low memory logs somewhat. Issue's intensiveness is intermittent. Even tried installing a bootlegged version of 7.1. Haven't got the 99$ account so won't let me use it - fails at activation. Switching off Java script in safari seems to help a lot with safari crashes and browsing feels super snappy but some functionality stops working and you lose some of the visual eye candy.

My ipad air just did the crash into Apple logo restart mode. This would be hilarious if I didn't go through three months of the same thing with the iPhone 5s, which eventually they replaced with a new handset. (I was watching a YouTube video link from within Facebook at the time). Meh.

Apple call it the "Crash Mode" and it was implemented as a feature in iOS7

Safari crashes regularly, especially on YouTube. Everytime I go to this page it crashes:

    http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-lyft-insurance-20140206,0,4886537 .story#axzz2saQBCEFv

iTunes has become so unstable, I've abandoned it and moved to MediaMonkey and Spotify. I've spent thousands on Apple products and music downloads and the quality of their software has deteriorated to the point of almost complete unreliability.

And the worst thing is that they don't seem to care.

My ipad crashed on this site  http://www.lonelyplanet.com/

Click on the link then a picture, and scrolldown and see if other people have  this crashing problem on this website.   Ironically, apple use this site on there ipad web page.

I really don't think this issue is down to specific sites. And if it is a hardware issue what's the common denominator between the hardware for current model iPhones and iPads? As it's happening on both.

I am so confused. Some say the 7.1 b5 fixes it. Some say it doesn't. Some say its machine specific, and not all have the problem. Some say it happens to iPhones and iPads. This doesn't make any sense!? I'm on my fourth iPad air, and it still happens. I push my iPhone 5s hard and it's never happened once. I'm really on the fence if I should try and get my money back.

I love to see my message being deleted, can't talk about unreleased software.  Can't tell others if what's coming fixes things or not.  This is good support.

The nice thing is those messages apparantly still come to our email inboxes. Your post was helpful, so thank you Stephane.

I found one forum saying a persons problem was repaired by restoring from itunes. Something about there being a problem with the initial ios image on the disk, and this would overwrite it. Going to give it a try.

Please see my posts on page 10, 12 and 14.

My senior Advisor suggested the same thing. I did it and the problem has been greatly reduced to almost nil. After wiping my Air clean as new, with a hard wire re-install of iOS7 and adding my 79 Apps one by one, I have had a total of 5 unexpected crashes to home screen since November 30, 2013.

I understand the Air is just a tablet (an expensive one) not a powerful laptop or desktop and don't expect it to perform like a Mac Book Pro or my powerful desktop. I use my Air probably 10 hours a day. For more intensive work I use my desktop.

When I did the procedure my Air was only 30 days old. I did not have much data on it and also had my iPad 3 which I could transfer data from.

Long answer, it worked for me.

... I forgot to add ... My Advisor said that wifi updates of iOS7 can sometimes corrupt iOS7, so it was best to do a hard wire re-install. I had this done at the Genius Bar at the store where I purchased my Air to document my problem.

According to my Advisor, Wifi updates will only send data that your given Air requires as opposed to a hard wire re-install which will send the complete file. My Advisor said this is verifiable and can be seen by their engineers."

So I just did it. Itunes says "there is a problem with your ipad". Started it up anyways. The second I enlarged text in safari, it crashed.

    This is nuts.

All this situation reminds me of a time back in the late 90’s when they found a security flaw in Windows and didn’t fix it for 8 or so months but also didn’t bother to tell anyone either.  Finally some independent windows programers cobbled together some type of fix, but Microsoft seemed to let it be out in the wild for a rather long time.

The same type of security flaw was fixed in 2 days with Linux...

"I have and iPad 1 running iOS 5.1.1 and it is constantly crashing whilst using applications.

My diagnostic list in settings is full of low memory logs and crashes. I have cleared all my cache, rebooted the iPad "as new" but I still get it crashing. It crashes in the app store, safari, other apps downloaded from the app store. Web browsing is slow and painful on sites which contain pictures."

That is an old post from Apple Support Communities, precisely from:

    http://discussions.apple.com/message/19320656

So, the first gen Ipad (which I own...) had the same problem of low memory crashes of the latest Ipad Air (which I own too :->).

That's why I don't believe that Apple really wants to solve it. I can imagine also why they don't need to do it...

And this is the most annoying part of all.

I think the biggest problems with this iPads are the lack of RAM memory... It always been poor RAM!

You can barely use them two years then the iOS slow them down so much that you have to buy a new

    upgraded iPad. That´s Apple
