Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Yes thats a problem, but the even bigger problem is them releasing software before its ready. Rushing stuff to match a product launch. I've read plenty of peoples statements saying their ipad 3 and 4's ran great on 6, but once they upgraded to 7 the crashing began.

We still have our iPad 3. My wife now uses it as much as I use the Air. That would be about 10 hours a day. She is running iOS7.04 on it and reports no crashes.

My iPhone 5s has never crashed. I sometimes have 20 safari windows open, and 30 apps running in the background. Many other peoples iPhones crash as much as their iPad airs...

There is no consistency to this, that the most frustrating part.

The combinaison of a new 64bit CPU with new 64bit iOS 7 with the higher resolution of the iPad (versus iPhone 5S) and the same 1Gb of memory seems enough to make it crash more.

My old iPad 3 is not having those crash, but it's a 32bit CPU running the 32bit release of iOS 7.

I have thought from the beginning (just after November 1,2013) that it was unique to the Air. The iPad3 has the same memory or less and the same Retina display and it dose not crash on iOS7. At the same time others say the iPad3 crashes on iOS7.

I think it also has to do with how the Air is used. I do not push my Air. I think of it has a tablet which cannot match the capabilities of a powerful laptop or desktop.

One of the problems I had in addition to apps crashing was that my Outlook email account wasn't synching and downloading and I had 8 app updates that wouldn't download.

When I put my iPad Mini up for the night, I usually just close the cover and let it turn itself off. Last night, I completely powered down then powered back up today. So far today, nothing has crashed, I can access my Outlook email, and I was able to update the 8 apps.

I don't know if that's a permanent solution yet or just a coincidence.

I bought mine on launch day. I had maybe a dozen crashes the first month. It seems that each ios7 update that has come out has made it worse. It finally got to the point where everytime I used safari, even one or two windows open, it crashed, so I went in to complain. The fact that many folks out there have no problem lead me to believe its fixable. I am not saying it should not have 2gb of ram, it should, but, well, thats not a possibility.

I don't think those specific sites are the cause of the crash, but there's something on those sites that appears to precipitate the crash. Are they heavy on graphics or flash or some other kind of memory hog?

I have used the Memory manager to show "memory preassure" when use Safari. Somethims there are only a few MB free... I think thats a big problem.

If they have installed 2GB I think it would run much more stable! But of course Apple will earn so much money they can!

I don' know but take a look at this site. It has a scrolling marquee, a scrolling banner, embedded video,  lots of high resolution photos embedded and text. Long, long page. I can scroll this page as fast as I want to and it does not crash. Others on this thread tried it without crashing. The only thing, you need to let it load fully until the scrolling banners appear.

My Senior Advisor said a lot of Apps are not optimized for the 64 bit architecture. This may be part of the problem.

What's the verdict on the retina mini? I'm taking my air back for #5 tomorrow and contemplating switching to the retina mini.
