Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

From my experience chrome was just as bad if not worse than safari on an iPad air.

The newest version of Chrome is so much more stable than the latest version of Safari, it's not even a discussion.  I've been running 7-10 tabs on Chrome for the past week without 1 crash.  On Safari, I'd have crashed 5-10 times a day with that many open tabs.  I have an iPad Air, and have been crash free for the past week by spreading my tabs across three different browsers (Safari, Chrome, Puffin).  For Safari, I try not to open more than 2-3 tabs at a time.  The other browsers are more forgiving.  Puffin can get quite laggy, though.  Safari is the fastest of the 3 browsers, but the most prone to crash.

On my second replacement, chrome is the only app I installed. Crashed 16 times in two days. Never opened more than one tab.

I went through all of the troubleshooting and exchanged my ipad air three different times. I finally returned it.  I emailed apple with my disappointment and heard crickets. I am so disappointed in apple. From one consumer to another, return your ipad air if you are able to do so. If not I guess I would try to sell it in eBay. You could use it as a paper weight as well.

Also from my mine..... until the last 2 Chrome updates, having many changes and bug fixes...

    See below if you want

Google Updates Chrome For iOS With Built-In Data Compression...

    - Chrome for iOS now supports data-compression proxy. By having your web browsing flow through Google’s servers, the company can compress your data (and especially images) to help you save up to 50 percent of bandwidth while you are browsing.

PS: this does NOT solve obviously the IOS 7 problems, which MUST be solved by Apple....

    Ciao!

It was last weekend that I installed it and it crashed constantly. Maybe they updated it since then.

Alright this low memory issue is enough to drive anyone mad if not insane.

I updated chrome and it crashed in all but 10'seconds upon visiting the 9to5 Mac iPad Air don't believe the hype site here:

    http://9to5mac.com/2013/11/08/a-week-with-the-ipad-air-in-three-words-believe-th e-hype/

So I went into settings under bandwidth reduce data usage. Turned it on. The site loaded ok this time with no other tabs open but was starting to stick and felt like it was going to crash.

Went back here to Safari to find this page half to reload and lost what I typed and had to sign back in! Thanks iPad. We have a lemon here in terms of tablet which is supposed to be used for browsing the web.  Apple is to busy working on the next iPhone to give a **** about already obsolete iPad Air lack of ram first world problems. Maybe we should all go sumo wrestling with our iPad Air strapped to our guts and crush them into oblivion and mail back the leftovers back to Cupertino.

These god **** crashes are driving me crazy. Right now I was listening to a podcast in one tab and surfing in another, and I dutifully avoided sites I know cause crashing, but it wasn't enough, it crashes anyway. Continuing a podcast is not like just reloading a site.

Gaaahh!!! This has been driving me crazy for months now!! I swear, when something is this annoying for this long that isn't just going to be forgotten when it is fixed. At this point it's pretty much too late already. I won't switch but the honeymoon is definitely over, if I ever recommened an Apple product again it'll be with a warning attached.

This can't be good for businnes, it hits at the core of what is the main value of an Apple product, that it just works. Because it obviously doesn't, for months now it's been completely dysfunctional. IT DOESN'T WORK. And not a word from Apple which makes it worse.

Is anyone in the technology news media investigating and reporting on this?

I'm surprised an enterprising attorney hasn't visited these boards and implemented a class action lawsuit. Of course, when resolved, the attorney would get $5M and we would get $30-Off coupons on future purchases of Apple products that don't work right.

Usually the  technology site on on the BBC website reports issues with technology

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology/

One of the apple ipad/iphone sections contained issues re: maps on the iphone 5.  And other issues.  Not heard this one yet though ( whether safari crash memory issues, selected web page issues etc) I guess its because its not so widespread?  And not one BIG issue but small "not news" ones?

    Tony

I dont think Apple going to fix this. Of cource IOS7.1 is better implemented, but the RAM is to small!

    What happens on IOS8???

And they know that people are going to buy the next iPad Air 2 with Touch ID and 2GB Ram.

Seven Low Memory browser crashes so far today. Pretty normal day for me. My wife's Nexus never crashes. Google/Asus must be a lot better at HW and SW design than Apple.

After having heard the third IDENTICAL reaction in a row I'm pretty much convinced Apple has instructed its personnel how to react to the Air problem. So far all three employees I spoke to in the last month told EXACTLY the same thing in the same order:

    1. No Sir, this is the first time I hear of this problem.

    2. It will probably be a problem to your iPad Air. Just bring it in and we'll have a look.

    3. More people with the same problem? Well, when you search for a specific problem on the internet you will always find it.

Especially that third comment, which all three told me in almost exactly the same words and was clearly studied on, made me come up with this theory.

I must say I don't like talking like this about my favourite company, but for the first time I have the feeling Apple doesn't take me serious.
