Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Why do that?.........I don't normally do that on any site, so if that's what you're doing with your iPad, it's a waste of time.

Sorry, but I've proven my iPad operates just fine.  I scrolled up and down quickly and multiple times and my iPad didn't crash.

Um.......OK.  I don't need to prove anything more.  I'm happy with my iPad Air.  It hasn't crashed once since I set it up on Christmas day.  I use Safari, not any other browser.  You say what I posted doesn't prove anything?  I say it proves that on Safari in the site so many have said my iPad is guaranteed to crash, it didn't.

When I returned my ipad after several exchanges and troubleshooting galore. The apple store employee with whom I went to high school told me that they had 13 returns the past week regarding safari crashes.

    Hi Greg.

Very early on I was a couple of clicks away from buying a kindle fire hdx. The main thing that stopped me one night is that in Australia only the wifi versions are available.

I have no major dramas with my ipad air. I consider myself lucky as I believe many people here have major dramas with it. I also believe many don't. This is perfectly summed up by captnfi above and by the four letters YMMV.

I would not have bought an ipad air if I already had an earlier ipad and if I wasn't able to get just short of 30% discount when I bought mine through various offers (price matching and staff discounts through my work)

Do I enjoy my ipad air? Yes

Should it have been running better when it was released? Absolutely

Will ios 7.1 solve all problems for most users? I bloody well hope so

Would I recommend it? Only if you must but wait for the next release if you can

So I'm happy with it but my recommendation to others is if you can wait til ios 7.1, then wait and see. And if you need to wait till ipad air 2 then consider that to if ios 7.1 ain't gonna help

That's my two bobs worth. Definitely not as strong a recommendation as it should be for a $1000 product

    Cheers

    Peter

Yours will crash in landscape you tool. Show us a video of it not crashing in landscape. You won't because you already know it will crash. Period end of story.

Well said Peter. I love mine too, all 5 airs I've had. But I only get one every few years. I'm taking this one back and waiting until they up the ram. I will be sad without it, but happy in the end.

The issue is Apple's systematic denial of the issue. I talked to at least twenty different employees at all levels from engineers to retail employees and all but one employee whom I have known since I was a boy admitted they had ever even seen the crashes

RAM has nothing to do with the Safari crashing.....from what I've been reading, the crashing is caused by a poorly written software package that Apple has provided to app developers.  Memory is getting overwritten and causing the OS to think it is low on memory, when there should be adequate reserves for Safari to run easily...this is called a "memory leak".  It's common in software.  Increasing the current memory of the iPad to 2 GB will only delay the crashes a little longer, but they'll still happen once the memory leak goes beyond the 2 GB capacity....Apple has to do a thorough debugging/rewrite of their ailing software package....maybe they'll have it more stabilized on the 7.1 release.

Peter you say in your post you do believe many people are having issues. This is precisely my point when someone contacts Apple about the issue. They appear as if they have never heard such a thing

I'm happy with it when it's working. I'm not happy with a $829 product that's fails regularly. I love the screen, the weight, the way it works with other apps. And that's why I'll buy another when they get their s@&t together.

Get their act together?? They won't even admit that an issue exists.

You must settle for everything in your life. You said the product fails regularly but yet are happy with it and it would not dissuade you from purchasing another product in the future. So if a company sells you a product for eight hundo and it fails regularly, then you want the next companies product. Ha I bet car salesmen see you coming from a mile away
