Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

It happens on alot of web sites, where it really goes bad is if you pinch in to zoom in a bit as my eyes arent as good as they used to be, this is what blows pages up on me,  i dont care squat about what site it is but i dont keep track and this 9 to 5 is a easy one to pointout are as a few others its ironic that page is about how great the ipad is lol.  Like i said i have ipads that were not upgraded and work great and that is what ill use.  I buy a new gen each update as i develop apps on the ipad and i write it off so its not a big deal. Im just miffed a bit as i really liked the light weight of this ipad as my wrists would begin to ache with the previous version as the retina screen really made it heavier than its previous version.

Ok. I've reloaded that 9to5mac website numerous times on iOS 7.1 and my iPad Air with 128gb is still fine. I didn't have to reset to factory defaults or do anything special.

This means that the iPad hardware is in the clear and is clearly not at fault. The problem is iOS in its networking stack or safari. I suspect its iOS and what Safari tries to use though as safari core code should be the same across the Apple product range with slight differences only exposed by iOS and it's focus around the touch experience.

For those who are crashing in the URL to 9to5mac, I agree that this shouldn't be accepted as norm. That site doesn't crash android, windows phone 8, Mac OS X safari, windows internet explorer, Firefox, chrome, etc, etc. To say that these people are deliberately looking for broken sites to break iOS is a sign of accepting Apple and it's flaws blindly. We have to be upfront about an issue and help each other acknowledge a problem when there is one and to see if we can help Apple find root cause rather than accept that it is ok. It simply isn't. Especially when people spend hard earned cash to buy a device built for browsing and interacting with social media channels.

I think disabling JavaScript goes a long way in helping mitigate some of the issues but there could still be some "flakiness" in how Apple is coding iOS and/or Safari or it's ability to manage configuration and trace corruption caused by other apps. In any event, if Apple iOS provides developers with a way to mess up iOS, it is still an Apple issue to resolve because Apple exposed the methods allowing for that mess to occur.

So it's been about 36 hours since I upgraded to 7.1.  So far I have had no low memory crashes..zero!  I had been averaging 2-5 per day prior to the update.  Most of my crashes came while going from page to page in Safari at the Facebook site.  In my opinion, they have made my iPad Air more stable.  Is it totally fixed?  I think not as indicated by others.  Hopefully my improvements continue and I didn't speak too soon!

Hello i upgraded to 7.1 On my ipad air. I did a clean install and then a restore.

I had straight a crash on mercury my alternative browser. But then the second time I browsed the same and later famous 9to5mac web URL it didn't crash. Then Facebook apps crashes one time , but after that fine.

So 7.1 is not flawless on low memory crash but sofar it seems less memory crashes.

Btw:  mercury browser caused less crashes then safari. That proofed to me that the is still an overall issue with low memory but some apps trigger it faster then others.

Still in a love & hate relationship with my iPad Air,

    Bas.

    Update:

Today, I passed my Safari crash logs on the Apple Support representative. The logs contain only two attempts to load these pages, nothing else:

    1) http://9to5mac.com/2013/11/08/a-week-with-the-ipad-air-in-three-words-believe-th e-hype/

    2) http://www.nin.com

Both pages cause Safari's crash at some point (orientation change, fast scrolling, on load attempt,...).

Logs were taken from a "clean" iPad Air 128GB Wifi, the "clean" literally means the iPad was restored as new to the 7.1 version without providing any Apple ID, without syncing with iTunes ...

So, now the Apple support has a precise record what has happened on my iPad as older logs prior to today's diagnostics had been deleted from the device.

I will post results here as soon as they report back.

One great thing with iOS 7.1, I can now size my wallpapers the way I want. No longer locked in as before. Was asking Apple to do this. You can turn off the motion completely.

Not one unexpected close to home screen with 7.1 so far.

Yep, under iOS 7.1 my iPad is faster, I can resize wallpaper and everything is running quite nicely.

9to5tomac crashes too in my ios 7.1 iPhone 5 so it is no tan iPad Air hardware issue.

On the other hand i have noticed that ios 7.1 move faster and better than previous version. I have to say that since i updated to 7.1 i havent had any crash other than 9to5tomac and nin. Both crash only if i visit it in landscape mode, in normal mode works fine.

I loved your post questioning my intelligence.  You continue to post on a thread concerning user issues regarding the ipad air, to inform all of us that have had no issues.  I do not get it.  Are you trying to upset people?? These concerned users have experienced problems. I just do not understand why you would continue to post on a disscusion board about low memory crashes if you are not experiencing any issues.  It is frustrating to those who are having issues with their device.

Will you at least admit that some of us are experiencing issues??? This discussion has over 100,000 views. You could be right it could be my lack of intelligence.
