Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

"This means that there are web pages that even under iOS 5/6 still easily load on an iPad 2 with only 512MB RAM, while under iOS 7 on an iPad Air (with twice as much RAM), even in Safari may lead to a crash..."

This the summary of the discussion, isn't?

OK, here is direct post from google translation (german to english).

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------

Today I emailed the developer of the browser "iCab Mobile".

I would like to announce the findings of this developer and I thank you a thousand times for his truthful words.

Below is the mail traffic is very interesting ...

    I = normal

    Developer = fat

Various pages in third browsers like with my favorite browser "iCab
    Mobile "
    crash.

I could replicate the error with the site:

    http://www.pocketpc.ch/magazin/testb...htc-one-m8-im-
    detailed test-569 /

Yes, unfortunately this is a well-known problem of iOS 7

The general memory usage of the system itself is here apparently
increased significantly, but also the web engine has a massive problem
with the memory consumption. There are discussions in various forums, in
which the memory usage is discussed some JavaScript-structures,
and where it was then observed under 7.0.x that structures the iOS 6
only about 60 MB require iOS 7 times quite almost 10-fold to
Memory anforderten. This means that there are web pages even under iOS 5/6
still easily load on an iPad 2 with only 512MB RAM, iOS 7
on an iPad Air (with twice as much RAM), even in Safari (dar lack
Features and as part of the system too much memory saving
May be run in other browsers) lead to a crash. How far under 7.1
the whole has improved, I'm not sure yet. There are
    but unfortunately still have problems.

1, So you can crash on ug page with iCab Mobile V8.1.1 and
    IOS7.0.x replicate (all iOS devices)?
Yes, I can reproduce the crash, not only in iCab Mobile,
but also in Chrome and other browsers on an iPad Mini retina
with iOS 7.1.1. On iOS 6 on an iPad 3 (as much RAM as has
the mini: 1GB) running the same pages in the same version of iCab
Mobile without any problems. On iOS 6, the side needs many
    hundred MB of memory less.

2 May I make her answer in the forum public or to test the site
Calling iCab Mobile with, finally us with the knowledge cpl. new!
Clear. But as I said, any alternative browser should show the problem.
If necessary. well only when scrolling.

Many users turn instead to an Apple support to their iPad AIR
exchange, and am about ... (since many non affected).
Is certainly not a hardware problem. It is quite possible that a
Rebooting the device solves the problem for some time. And also various
System settings could the general memory usage of iOS
increase or decrease, and thus the problem more or less
    can be likely.

3 If this site with your browser crashes it ought with a
IPAD AIR be other replicable or why I can not find the same
    minded?
Although I have no iPad Air, but an iPad Mini retina, but
hardware technology in principle is identical. And I may be the problem
    understand.

4 So crash logs do not help to optimize their browser?
Normally, yes. But in the case the reason is not so by iCab
causes, but from iOS itself means that here you can really only Apple
    Remedy the situation.

Like the new use agreement.  Too much irrelevant ranting here.

I'll be direct.  Since 7.1.1, I'm getting many more crashes than I had in 7.1, usually in safari.  The crash logs appear to blame other apps, but happens even when nothing else is running.  Tried reboot, clearing history and cookies, no difference.

Wish I hadn't updated, but on the other hand some nasty sounding security gaps were closed.

I agree its not hardware but ios7

which has bad code and causes the crashes.

Come on Apple get your finger out and solve this problem.

Reboots are more often on 7.1.1. Dammit. Very sad.

Having same issue with iPad air and iPhone 5S, both iOS 7.1.1. With iOS 7.1 i had about 2 crashes while with 7.1.1 already got 10 crashes. So annoying and mostly I use MBA because doing online payments or other serious things on iPad or iPhone makes me worried about not getting crash...

Had the iPad Air replaced at a London store again and set up as new. Seems speedier, less app refreshes. Great battery life again - 91% after 3 hours of moderate use at full brightness. Not willing to test the resprings as no doubt they will be there but hopefully with the new setup they won't be as common.

Oh, and I was told (with a near straight face) that apps refreshing themselves and losing your work is a 'feature' of the OS. Thankfully them crashing and rebooting isn't. Thew.

I am extremely frustrated with Safari on my iPad Air and regret upgrading from my iPad 2 which had few problems. I can honestly say that I crash at least 20-30 times a day on numerous web sites. An erase and restore did nothing to correct the situation, and i've tried just about every recommendation on the web. Apps in iOS 7 no longer save their state when multi-tasking and switching back and forth which is a real step backward in my opinion. Web browsing should be solid on the iPad as I would think it is the most used function. Come on Apple!

if you look at your dianostics report (settings/general/about/diagnostics&usage/dianostics & uage data you will see low memory listed. most crashes are low memory. i read that iPad 4/Air uses 10 more memory than iPad 2 ... i.e. a 50 MB use is 500 MB . and since the air memory is 1GB then there isnt moch left for cpu and overhead. i find that my memory dips to below 200 MB free  a lot. they should have put a 2 GB xhip for memory in iPad 4/Airs !!!

and often i find that safari likes portait better than landscape.

I'm not sure what to make of it, but it is bothersome. The crashes can occur with no other apps open and with only one tab in Safari. It seems that some websites i visit crash all the time while others have little to no problem at all. I called Apple back in January to report the problem, and went through the whole resetting crap, which was useless. At least It doesn't spontaneously reboot now, which was the other problem i used to have. I don't seem to have these problems on my iPhone 5s, but to be honest I don't really browse the web too much on it. I'm pretty sure it's bad software as some apps, like memory intensive games rarely crash.

it seems to result from a known problem . esecially if you have an iPad 4/Air . seems that it uses 10 times more memory than the others ... i.e. a 50 MB use is 500MB in the iPad 4/Air . and since the iPad 4/Air only has 1GB of memory you un out fast. i jphave trying to find an app that closes prosses that are runnng but not where i can close them. i have also had my memory usage as low as 24MB free . i use sys activity manager lite (free) to see the memory usage. maybe if i paid for dull i could shut down processes that are runing like mail, app store, camera, when i am not even using them.seems that closing apps still let them run if the app is correct.  i just checked i have appx 161MB free at this time.
