Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

I Am on my third iPad Air and I have nothing, I repeat NOTHING ON IT. Only the apps from Apple and this thing crashes constantly. No other apps open(there are no other downloaded apps) never synced it to my computer. This thing is a joke. I have dealt with over thirty apple "techs and senior advisors". Nothing!!! Wasted an hour per call. Thirty hours wasted! They refuse to acknowledge there is an issue so I guess the Better Business Bureau needs to get involved. This is crazy that the WILL NOT FIX THIS ISSUE! Crashing on a brand new iPad Air after paying over $800? Garbage customer service. Very sad very very sad. Steve Jobs did turn over in his grave...gave me the finger!

I have iOS 7.1.2 on my iPad Air 64 GB 3G and it's crashing endlessly. So much so that it's just hard to do anything. I am very surprised at such a significant failure rendering a $800 device (not to mention all accessories) nearly useless. From this and a number of other discussions, it's apparent that the problem is universal. This is unbelievable that Apple has not done anything to fix it already.

What is Apple now doing about this? Is there a software fix in the works?

Otherwise, this calls for a class action suit. I want my money back at the least. And then may be I  should switch now to an Android tablet.

All computers/Devices not only from apple need CPU to preform. If the CPU doesn't have the memory to preform, then your iPad will crash. Try deleting apps or photos. You might want to backup your iPad first though.

Partly true, nlong, but after the last couple of years, we know the crashes aren't a CPU memory problem. .

Maybe a bit premature, but I've been using ios 8 on my iPad Air for about 5 hours, and the low memory freezing issue with Safari has not occurred.  Right now I have 7 different apps and 5 tabs in Safari open.  Of those I've tested, only one app (AT&T Locker), which has not been updated for iOS 8, crashed to the home screen .  So far, so good.  Fingers crossed.

It seems that iOS 8 has solved the Safari crash issue (low memory) on my iPad Air (64 GB).

With iOS 7.x I had 1 or 2 crashes a day; now with iOS 8.0 my iPad Air had no crash for over 30 hours now.

Thanks for posting this.  This and the previous post by Garypsu are helping to ease my fears about updating my iPad Air to iOS 8. In my experience, iOS 7.1 actually seemed to solve the problem for me.  Since updating to that, sure, I've had the occasional Safari crash here and there, but nothing like the multiple crashes daily that I experienced for several months between the release of iOS 7.0 and 7.1.  I have been very wary of updating to iOS 8, since I'm concerned it may be a repeat of the same Safari crashing issue that will again take Apple months to resolve.

Anyone else care to comment on whether Safari in iOS 8.0 is stable?

I have upgraded to iOS 8 and on my iPad Air 64GB 3G and it appears to be stable for last couple of days.

I am also baffled by the fact that within a day of posting on this forum expressing my frustration, the issue stopped, as if someone decided to exempt me from the issue! In anycase, I am glad I don't have this issue.

Maybe my remarks were a bit premature. While ios 8 has definitely improved the low memory issues, they still are occurring.  Safari still freezes at times when loading a page.

My iPad is 3 years old and it never froze up until after I installed iOS8. Only in Safari does it freeze, load slower, not stay on pages after shutting down, etc..

I've read some of this lengthy discussion. Has any real solution to the problem actually been found? What can I do to make it stop?

Great. Okay. I guess this isn't an issue for anyone else anymore.  Well, it's still my issue ... and my iPad's Safari still *****.

As your issue is not the same as the original issue in the is post and because this thread became a very contentious debate, you're far more likely to get help by starting your own thread with a properly descriptive subject line. Explain what you're trying to do, what happens when you try, what error messages your getting. Also explain, specifically, what troubleshooting steps you've already taken.

While you're awaiting an answer, try using the forum search feature to look for other, similar threads.

    Best of luck.

P.S. And leave out the profanity. The resulting asterisks just make your post difficult to read.

    • I restored my iPad Air as new a number of times, was given 2 replacements at the Genius Bar, and the low memory crashes continued - even after the 8.1 upgrade. I think that I have finally resolved my problem, albeit at a cost. I bit the bullet and bought an iPad Air 2, and gave my Air 1 to my son, who isn't as much of a "power user". So far, after a week, no crashes on the Air 2. Apparently, the lack of ram exacerbated by the poor job of clearing of memory by iOS is the reason for the issue after all.
