Q: Ipad air low memory crash

Loads of crashes per day - this is a bit lame.

They are deleting my posts as well.  I may just return my ipad 4 if Apple is gonna punk out This bad. This Apple is Getting rotten.

So linking the issue to iPad Air design doesn't seem to explain why crashes appear on earlier models (see other threads that are not iPad Air specific at least in title).

These threads aren't random samples, but it seems that the major commonality is the release of iOS 7. I wonder if many of those who say they had no crashes on their previous device had installed iOS 7. I did, and got them on both. I can't compare, because I returned the Air.

Ironically only Apple has the data to address this; data from us. Or maybe it goes to NSA.

This is getting repetitious. I have said repeatedly that I have had no crashes on either the iPhone 4S or the iPad 3 all the way up to iOS7.0.4. The 4S is our only cell phone. My wife now uses the iPad 3.

After the "fix" on my Air, have had no crashes in 61/2 days. I appear to be in the minority for having a "fixed" Air, or at least on this thread. I have been looking for a major announcement from Apple about this low memory problem. Maybe it is not widespread. Apple was open in the past about other issues such as the antenna problem on the iPhone 4. I'm not prepared to say Apple is hiding the problem right now.

Possibly the problem is the type of App used and the number in the background, I don't know. I have 11 open Apps as I write this.

A question about the fix that worked for you: Did it involve wiping your iPad Air clean of all data and then restoring the data "from scratch" as opposed to from a previous backup from your iPad 3?  In other words, did it mean that you basically just had to start over with the Air as a brand new device with no accumulated data from your previous usage of older devices?

I ask this because I have been very resistant to trying any kind of possible fix that would basically require me to start my iPad experience over from scratch.  I had about 2 1/2 years of data accumulated in heavy usage on my iPad 2--including several gigs worth of documents I use constantly in my work, and naturally media, photos, etc., and reams of other data in various apps that are critical to my daily work and personal life--before getting iPad Air.  The prospect of having to rebuild this collection of data by hand is really a nightmare scenario for me, and a cure that may be worse than the disease.  (And if that is indeed the case, I don't consider it a true 100% "fix" because one of the Apple things that traditionally "just worked" was the ability to seamlessly transfer your experience/data on an older iOS device to a brand new one.  If this kind of rebuilding from scratch is the only option Apple is leaving us with, it will certainly influence my decision on whether and when to buy new replacement iOS devices in the future.  If I have to redo everything anyway, why not explore other alternatives?)

I'm certainly VERY hesitant to even risk the hassle and time commitment of trying this kind of rebuilding if it is not a 100% surefire solution.  And I really have my doubts because in my case (as I have posted repetitiously), I have had the same problems on my iPhone 5 and iPad 2 since Day 1 of downloading iOS 7.

I had 1 app running YouTube running and it crashes all the time. I have safari open with one tab open and it crashes all the time. I guess you are lucky for not having the same issue.

YES. It was wiped clean and I started from scratch. Also, iOS7 was hard wire re-installed. My advisor said wifi updates can sometimes corrupt the software.

For me the rebuilding was no issue. The Air was only 30 days old and most of my stuff went to our iPad 3. I did have to reinstall my Apps one by one.

Thanks for your response.  That sounds like what I was afraid of.  :-(  My iPad Air is less than 30 days old, so the newly accumulated data is not that big of a deal.  But transferring the 2+ years' worth of data from my iPad 2 over to it by hand is.

Follow-up question(s): Do you use any third-party apps that store data of any kind (documents, photos, audiobooks, etc.)?  And, if so, did your old data restore itself when you re-installed the apps or not?

My Air is used for "leisure stuff", so most of my data transferred with AirPlay as soon as I reconnected to my home wifi. (Photos, bookmarks etc.)  I did save a lot of PDF's in iBooks and will have to transfer those one by one by email as I need them so I understand your frustration.

Yup I feel your pain. The email I was using at that time when it crashed was yahoo and it's not even an app. I just added this account in my iPad Air.
