Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Frustrated that another support email resulted in being told that Apple we're not aware of this issue so I made a video of the problem to prove that I wasn't doing anything unusual:

    http://youtu.be/QrTeqwIe8aE

If anyone wants to see two iPad airs next to each other doing the same thing I will be happy to provide that video as well :-) for more fun I will make one of me at the Apple store doing this on their demo units as well - although I expect I won't be allowed to do that :-)

I am an Apple fan, but this is really starting to annoy me now. Not the so much the fault, rather the complete denial by all Apple support employees that this is a known issue.

Well, that's that. I've waited a couple of years to get an iPad, in the last week I bought an Air and after finding out about the problems I bought a 4. They're both unopened and going back and I can sit back and wait until they get this straightened out.

I'm sitting on $2100 in Apple Store cards, maybe I'll get a top of the line MacBook Air...

I see what you are saying. It says "Crash Report Key Identifier .... "

Before last week, I never thought about looking at diagnostics. My first call to an apple Advisor had me send a code from my Air and he was able to see my diagnostic report. He said he could see "multiple crash reports and low memory issues. So I checked and could see what he was talking about, something about latest crash etc.

Now when I check the diagnostics, I don't see anything about crashes, except as you pointed out, when I open the low memory report. The low memory reports just went from 6 to 7. I'm not seeing the application crash to home screen like before. If it's reading a crash, I don't understand.

General comment on this issue. I don't remember ever seeing discussions like this about trying to Apple to recognize and fix a problem. Or such a widespread issue.it cut across all iPads except the first.

Usually these threads are about problems and people suggest solutions.

This one is different. At least it seems to me.

Hey good video, great job. . Let's make it viral.  I tried the iTunes Store on my 128gb iPad4 and did not experience the crash.  However my 4 does occasional crash in Safari as I mentioned previously.  Today in fact my wife shouted from the other room "why do I keep getting apple logo and the Internet goes away" I replied " yeah.. iOS7". Then she overheard the video of you describing this problem and she asked me if I wrote that script.. lol I said "no, just another frustrated customer." I guess she's been trying to order something from gap and safari kept crashing while she was browsing their selection.

Since I bought my ipad Air, it has been crashing.  Seemed very weird that this would happen to such an expensive, brand new device.  As I continued to use it, it continued happening.  I contacted Apple Support and experienced the same as everyone else.  I received replacement and same thing!  Unbelievable!  I voiced my frustration to Apple support.  It is a sad situation.  I'm not even in this field and I am smart enough to know that the RAM is not able to handle this new processor.  That is just my gut feeling anyway.  The ipad Air ***** compared to the ipad 4.  Now, I am selling my ipad Air because I'm sick of the crashes.  My wife uses her ipad 4th gen with no issues.  That is what I'm going back to and hopefully at some point, Apple will acknowledge their blunder with the poor internal design of this device.

This appears to be a problem that only Apple can fix ... Apple needs to know about this.

    Thanks Lsmith123 for the video...

My brand new Ipad Air out of the box and iTunes crashes repeatadly in landscape; just the same as the video.

If this turns out to be a hardware issue... I am not taking the risk.

Back to Apple tomorrow to get my money back.

Wish I could return mine too!  I just got another ipad 4 because it doesn't crash like the air does.  I'm going to call Apple, speak with someone who might be able to do something about it, and ask if I can still return mine because of this problem.  I feel sorry for all of these people buying these ipads for Christmas.  They are going to be sorry!

I have it too. 2nd ipad air. Except this one has completely turned off twice. I did not get a diagnostic report for that, but if the "shutdown" happens again, it's obviously rarer than this safari shutdown issue.

when speaking to support on the phone, they told me they are aware of the safari issue and that it is an ios 7 issue that is known about., and that "this is why they release software updates". However, another time I called, they completely denied knowing about it.

While at an apple store I asked a few employees and of course they never heard of this issue.  Then I asked another person as I was buying applecare for this device, and they said they never heard of anyone else having the problem except that  safari shuts down on his iphone when he has too many tabs open. I told him that it doesn't only happen then for me, and he said well, that shouldn't happen and he never heard of it.

So, they definitely know about it but they just deny deny deny because they can, or because management has told them to deny all problems. Let's be real here, This has not been the first thing they have denied.

People keep buying their stuff, and nobody's complaining.

They have a good reputation regardless of these sorta bugs that always seem to show up at times. The issue isn't big enough where people return their devices or stop buying them. That's the problem.

I just wish there was a way to go to ios 6 with this ipad air device.

I hate ios 7 and since I am in a bad mood, I'll explain why.

First- this is not a multitasking machine. Why pretend and/or advertise it as such?

Why am  I still unable to clear out all my running programs at once? Cuz the jail breakers figured it out. Are they being stubborn because of them?

Who ever thought it was better to  type on a white keyboard with a white screen? U think this is better than previously? If you are gonna do that, just make the keypad transparent. At least I could then comprehend this idiocy.

The new photo organization is horribly implemented and makes it near impossible to organize pictures on an ipad or iphone. I'm glad I never upgraded my iphone 5, and I never will. I like to take pictures with it and look at them. This is so horribly thought out that I don't even use my ipad to view my photos anymore.

I just sync to my windows 7 machine, cuz it "just works". (And I can use photoshop on that machine)

And this whole "flat icons style"? It is just plain stupid. Why is it necessary to advertise this as "cool" and futuristic? Cuz apple said so? I just don't care about your icons apple, And I don't like them.

    -the end

I think you are correct that the Air "shutdown" issue is separate from and less common than the Safari crashing issue, which seems widespread if not universal.  I for one do not recall my iPad Air itself totally crashing/shutting down. (It may have happened once or twice in the almost month I've owned the Air; if so, obviously not enough to be a true problem since I can't even remember.)  Safari, on the other hand, continues to crash on me several times per day.

I also share your gripes about the look and feel of iOS 7.
