Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

My fear is that they don't know what the problem is and are unwilling to acknowledge that a problem exists until they do know.

I like my apple products but let's not give them too much credit.

How can responsible and complete testing of the ipad air with ios 7 not have picked up a lot if these errors????

Wouldn't the choice of 1gb ram ensure even more so testing was thoroughly thorough???

They certainly are unlikely (based on previous form) to say anything. It would be great and responsible if they did. But I guess that will only happen when it's gone THAT far.

Let's not forget Philip schiller's warm statement of "we're working hard to get as many as we can in the hands of our customers."  Yes it's all about giving us that experience. God forbid they just wanted to sell a shed load at the busiest time if retail all year.

    Happy festivus everyone!!

I can't wait till the next ipad on a few months time

From my experience, I think Safari is my problem.  I just followed all of apple supports advice and restored the iPad, had no more than 3 open apps up, no tabs open in safari and had cleared all the cookies and history.  I tried to load Fasterskier.com which I admit uses a lot of memory.  Each time safari crashed.  I have an activity monitor and the website gobbled up all kinds of ram as eventually it would load but only after several crashes.  It was the only tab I was trying to open!!!!  It is currently open as I type this....

I've had the same crashing issue/ lowmemory when web browsing using Safari as well (new iPad Air 32gb).  Spent a night with Apple support via chat fully restoring iPad twice as a new device etc as everyone else, same issues.

Went to the Apple store, showed them how it crashes.  They gave me a replacement and it crashed as well, 9 to 5 link everyone has posted.  After spending an hour there they told me not to visit sites such as the 9 to 5 link on thread as they will cause Safari to shut down.  I've had many crashes on several different sites, not just the primary link posted.  I'm not pleased with their response but I do have 2 more weeks left to return it and wait for a real fix (hardware or software) besides trying to avoid memory consuming sites on a $600 tablet.

This sounds like a follow up to "the office" series. They'll also tell you to turn off a lot of the features (as per a previous poster's work arounds a page or two ago) and to advise to never have more than 2 tabs open at a time. Which is fair enough for a product that can be close to $1k in cost. (Sarcasm)

Their advice and dealing of this with their customers is just golden, darkly humorous and pathetic!!

My iPad air has rebooted twice already today. Very unstable.

    General comment

Calling Apple won't help as much as taking your Air in to the store and running the diagnostics. If you are experiencing problems with the Air, take it to the store where you bought it. They will run diagnostics on it. They may not fix it, but those reports go directly to the engineering department. The more reports engineering gets, the more likely a fix will be in the offering. There are millions of Air's already sold, Apple will respond if enough people complain. Ask for a refund if your not happy.

Apple was pretty good in making things right in the past with the iMac (they replaced entire boards for free), the iPhone 4 etc. The 64 bit processor is a new thing and the existing Apps apparently are not ready for it. Maybe it needs more memory. Makes me wonder why more testing was not done prior to the release of Air. I know the answer, marketing deadlines. No I'm not employed by Apple, I just love their products.

I love your comments.  What if you bought the iPad at Best Buy?  Wished I would've bought it from apple store so I could ask to return due to the problems.  I definitely agree with everything you said and like the insight you offered!

I've been following this thread for more than a month.  The number of views and responses are growing rapidly.  I have a case number related to low memory issues/crashes.  Since I purchased my iPad Air directly from Apple, I can return it as late as January 7th.  I'm sure that Apple is aware of that "deadline", so hopefully a software fix will come before then.

Its an Apple product so they need to support it so you can walk into any Apple Store to receive service on it.

If you purchased it within the last 30 days I would recommend slapping on apple care then you can call them over the phone and receive another full year of warranty including accidental damages protection.

The way these Safari lemons are rolling off the assembly line I will make sure that my apple care gets exhausted if they don't fix it soon enough.

I do not think the sales will slow down. We should all line up and return our iPads in droves then maybe just maybe they would take this issue seriously.

I saw the galaxy 10.1 2014 model and it makes me regret springing almost 1k like you on the Air. My money has vanished into thin iPad Air on a tablet with less ram than a Huawei piece of junk Android phone.

One person said posts are removed because of trolling or they must be mean.

You could not be further from the truth.

My post has been removed *six* times.   It's quick.

I've read posts from this thread that disappear the next day.  There is no violation of the TOS, incidentially, although an Apple machine will tell you it does.  (terms of service)

It doesn't matter where you bought your iPad as long as you bought it from an authorized seller, which Best Buy is.  So you can do the same thing and take your iPad to the Apple Store.

    Hi

I managed to see one of your deleted postings. It was a list of questions - a poll. That goes against 2.4 of the terms if use, for what it's worth.

And the answer to most of your questions would be already answered on this thread ie yes most people are having all those issues with the ipad air and yes it is a botched up product offering (to put it nicely)

I also personally think apple will stay quiet on this like most major companies would (ie no respect for us punters, not why they are here) until at least retail quietens down later in January/feb and after that return period. In fact don't be surprised if nothing is said at all but then the next "incredible, cool" ipad is released "that we are so excited about, that has been built from the bottom up". Praise to the gods and the people that come down from the mountains of apple with gifts of splendour. Sorry, gifts of "incredible and cool" splendour.

Or should I play with another quote? "1gb is enough? My *ss, it's enough"
