Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Since you asked, I would return it.  Wait for the next version. I was all set to replace my iPad 3, until I read these posts, and the yellow tinge issue.

Thnx for all your advice. I can still return it until the 7th of january, so I think I might do that and then figure out for myself what I want with this. Order a new one or stick around for a little longer with my old iPad 2 (which is still working smoothly, although my mom will be sorry to give it back to me haha). It didn't feel right from the beginning, but since I'm no expert it could still be a software problem that will resolve itself with a new iOS update.

Thanks anyway, and hoping very much that this wil get fixed (no matter what is the cause), because I REALLY don't know what tablet I would have to buy if not an iPad :)

I have crashes in Safari, Mail, and Music. All those have probably been compiled in 64bit. I am using a retina mini after returning an ipad air that suffered the same problems.

Interestingly enough I've never had a crash that caused a system reboot until tonight.  I like to test "the opposite of VHS" software and it looks like windows 7 polka dot won isn't much of a fixer upper as the African lion Safari still gets stampeded by rhinos on the road.  Can say Crash or iCrash..???  Maybe this won't get deleted.

i am experiencing regular crashes on my new ipad air.

some webpages when zoomed in and then double tapped to zoom out crash safari.

after 3 or 4 crashes the ipad restarts with the apple logo. it happened with ios 7.0.3 and the same when i upgraded to 7.0.4.

strangley, the same webpage loads zooms in/out fine on ipad mini, iphone and my old ipad 1 so i am convinced it is the ipad air that is at fault.

    what should i do?

    "64-bit devices"

This is really good point. A 64 bit device with a 64 bit kernel (the 'ARM' in iOS, 'Darwin' is OS X) is addressing more memory in performing day to day routines than any previous iOS device. This is just pure speculation, but this consideration may not have been taken into account as fully as it should have been in Apple's QT testing.

My iPad air has not crashed yet, but the diagnostics & usage are full of these 'low memory reports'. I will continue to follow this thread and read the updates.

If you read the entire thread, you will see that help is (allegedly) on the way.  IOS 7.1 is being beta tested and, when released, may solve our problems.

I bought the ipad air a month ago and I started having the same issues as others (reboots, crash, etc).

After following this blogs and few others in English (I'm writing from Rome, Italy), I contacted apple with the will to return it, but the policy to do so before Jan 7th is valid only for devices purchased on line.

I bought mine in an apple store, so, after they checked that there was actually a problem, they replaced it with a new one.

One day after getting the new one (today) I am having the same issues of reboots.

Besides the problem, I was also surprised by the lack of the Customer care the Italian Apple is about.

I dealed with two disentangle apple store, the online assistance ant the apple care service and explain to all of them about this posts and a big number of unhappy customers around the world describing the same problems...the only response I received is: that I was the only apple customer in Italy describing this problem and returning the device.

I'm a new Apple fan, after using windows and other os for ages I decided to go all apple buying many of their devices in a couple of years (iMac, iPhones, iPads, iPods) and had very few problems....until now.

I am surprised I was not given the chance to return my ipad air to get the previous version instead...to wait for better release of the ipad Air next year.

I do apologise my bad English and for being that long, I'm so disappointed and frustrated about the issues and the lack of any reaction by Apple that I'm starting to question if to go back to other brands which are also at much lower prices.

I believe it is important to share this here.

Wondermarco, your English is fine. It's much better than my Italian.

Yours is the same story most of us have had.

I would not give up my Apple things, but I wish Apple would do a better job communicationgg this problem to heir support people.

I understand Apple is working on a fix.

    Hi Wondermarco,

You can came back to the Apple store with a copy of this discussion to show that at least another Italian customer is experiencing this "frustrating " experience...

Moreover I'm following some Italian forums and I can assert that a lot of users are having the same issues on iPad and iPhone 5s too. A friend of mine, just yesterday , faced the "Apple blue screen of death"...

However, try to restore your iPad through iTunes, I get some improvements (no more hard reset, only some crashes with a few apps), now my iPad works pretty well.

If you read all the thread, Apple is now working on this problem that seems to be a software problem (related to 64 bit).

    We can only wait...

    Regards

i had an online chat with apple tec support tonight and they were very helpful .

We ran through all the usual checks and finally done a total restore so effectively set up the ipad as a brand new unit. i went straight to safari to test out the problem i had and it hadn't gone away.

the tec support guy offered to take the ipad in for testing/service to fix or replace, which is great service.

However, having read these threads again, i am doubtful that a new ipad will be the solution. I get the impression its an ios fault.

At least apple have recognised my problem and have offered a solution. does mean i will be without my ipad for the duration of the fix

Just got my replacement. Just crashed and rebooted this morning. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue. iOS 7 is buggy as he'll.

    Ciao Marco,

there are many Italian guys having this problem... Only Apple Genius Bar pretend not to know it.

Or, if they really don't know such a problem, I don't understand what they are there for....?!?

Internet is now full of articles and forum discussing low memory crashes and other problems annoying Apple customers.

I am one of them (from Torino...)

    Hi guys,

    I found this article: http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/12/18/ios-7-0-4-springboard-crashes-increasing /

It seems that our crashes are Springboard crashes... I hope that iOS 7.1 will come soon...

Ps: merry Christmas and happy new year to every one from my "crashing iPad air"....
