Hi everyone
Just wanted to post here again as I have been following this thread for some time. A few weeks ago I had decided to NOT buy an ipad air and just wait for these issues to be resolved, or probably just wait for next ipad to be released in whatever form it may take.
However after to-ing and fro-ing and deciding to not buy an a ipad air, I did decide to go ahead and I bought one Christmas Eve. The main reason I took a punt on this is I was getting a little less than 30% off due to a deal I had so if I have to sell it loss will be minimal. I was actually going to buy a kindle fire hdx one night but when I realised there is no cellular version I let that option go.
I have also posted here a few times a few weeks ago re how pathetic this ipad air/ios 7 release is. So rushed and under tested. Probably developed and tested on the ipad pre 64 bit and then rushed through with Christmas profits and marketing deadlines in mind.
Having said all that though......
I am surprised that my crashes here have been minimal. Yes there have been a few but not many. Mind you I have been using the ipad air with these issues in mind so my expectations were not world class. Eg I close background apps after I have finished with them, I generally have no more than 4 or 5 safari tabs open at a time (unlike on my phone where I might have 9 or 10 at a time). A few times when Safari has crashed I have gone back and closed those background apps as I am aware of this products limitations. I also found that the pcmag website would sometimes cause a little bit of grief so I have had some patience and my iPhone 4S as a backup when needed. My iPhone 4S is on ios7.0.4 and I have had extremely low number of issues there - say one a week
The girl (staff) at the apple store said she was having major dramas on her phone - I can't remember if she had 4s or 5 or 5s
The reason I say this is to share my mileage with other readers and maybe those that are considering buying one at the moment. I also noticed that (maybe around page 20 or so here - don't quote me on that number) some posters here mentioned they were taking their ipad AGAIN back to apple for a replacement so I wonder if their issues were solved as they never came back here.
Bottom line I have only had marginal issues with safari. Let me add I have not been using iTunes except for downloading apps and there have bee no issues and my music app has been no dramas too. The way I use my ipad it is 96% working so I am not having issues that have sent me over the edge (touch wood here big time!!!!!)
What has really surprised however is that there are a number of people here that are having major issues and often on a number of devices - that is really staggering compared to my experience (and I don't doubt them).
If you really really won't an ipad and can't wait them maybe this current release might be workable for you as even though there'd are many problems with this there are a lot of us that are not having major grievances. If you can wait though - THEN WAIT!!!!!
In a nutshell these ipad airs are very limiting at times. These are not multi tasking devices and you do have to manage that 1gb. In my experience it is manageable but THAT IS NO EXCUSE from apple as that should not be needed to be done. I am still keeping fingers crossed that the ios 7.1 release, in March I read, will solve these issues. No idea if it will but, as well as on this thread, some users of the beta 2 of ios 7.1 are reporting good things -dare to dream and fingers crossed.
That's my two bobs worth (btw I'm touching wood again that this ipad does not stop working on me) and good luck with you iPads or your decision to not buy one and the new release of ios 7
Final note I think apple have had a few dramas with marketing deadlines in the past so these dramas do not totally surprise me ( eg the slow release of the Mac Pro this year, the consistently put back release of the iMac of late 2012 too). Something is not quite right there, in my opinion, of how they hold the customer and the respect that they don't have enough of
