Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Guys, we need to keep patience. If there's a software bug, Apple will most probably fix it, as the track record of the company shows. So I'm just gonna give it a pass. Because the only website that has crashed on my ipad is machineryhouse.com.au. I haven't had any other crash. It's not that my work is getting affected or I can't use my Ipad with ease. So let's just wait for apple to fix it in the new release.

I  bought an ipad air 64 gb wifi model the second week after day 1. I have iOS 7.0.3 and only one reboot in a week I think. Then upgraded to iOS 7.0.4. I experience a lot of crashes in various apps and one or more reboot (with the apple logo) per day! I left my ipad for 1 week at an Apple premium reseller (i don't have an Apple Store near my house) and they said they found nothing wrong and couldn't repeat the casual rebooting problem. They reset my ipad as new but after one day I experienced again the reboot. Then call Apple support and they know nothing about the problem and couldn't receive the diagnostic by my device. They only suggest to send it to the assistance! For anyone send the ipad air to repair service works?

Sorry I don't speak english very well, I'm from Italy

This is the attitude I have been trying hard to hold onto. I am still hopeful that there will be a software fix for this forthcoming. But we are now going on four months of living with this problem in iOS 7. And it's been a very long almost four months for those of us who have come to rely on using the iPad several hours a day for work and personal use. I am very disappointed with Apple for taking so long to fix this and for rolling out iOS 7 with such a glaring flaw in the first place.  (Are we really expected to believe this problem wasn't obvious during beta testing?  Seriously?) Taking 3 months and counting to correct such glaring flaws, which never should have been foists on the consumer public in the first place, is very un-Apple-like.  (BTW, "very disappointed" is my way of politely expressing my TRUE feelings on this.)

    @Stephane

"The thing is, I was at the store today, played with the iPad Air 32Gb and I did not experience any problem loading iTune and could not crash Safari....

So, I'm not sure that ALL Air are "bad".  Mind you, I played 10 mins with the demo model, so take that with a grain of salt.

By the way, all the stores (BestBuy, FutureShop, Staples) were out of 64Gb, even the Apple Store....  They only had 16,32 (WiFi and LTE) or 128 LTE."

Not to be a wet blanket, but 10 minutes isn't a fair test for reaching strong conclusions.  My iPad can work fine for 10 minutes or longer between crashes.  But several hours of usage per day will still mean multiple crashes daily. I continue to believe, however, that this is less an iPad-Air problem and more an iOS 7 problem as I have it on all three of my iOS devices running iOS 7.

If you mean that you got a 16 gig one and think 32 gig would have avoided the problem, I'd just point out that is not the case. The "low memory" error here is talking about RAM, not storage, and all iPad Airs have the same RAM regardless of storage memory.  I have a 128 gig Air with the issue, and also have it on my 64 gig iPad 2 and 64 gig iPhone 5.

@Tulkinghorn : That's why I said to take my test with a grain of salt.  But during that 10 mins, I tried a couple of site that people here say that crash their iPad Air.  I did not experience those crash.  Same with iTune in landscape mode.  What I forgot to check is the version of iOS, maybe they were not running 7.0.4

I think it's still weird that Apple would want to cover that up.  Just come out clean and say it's going to be fixed in the next release of iOS that's all.

Apple has a storied history of just fixing things quietly, without any fanfare.  They're not covering anything up.  They will just release an update and this thread, like other threads over issues that were problematic for "some" users will retire.

Always remember that this forum is like a hospital.  There are those of us who are here all the time trying to help people.  And then there are all the patients who come here for help.  It gives a rather skewed view to how the device is actually behaving in most users hands.  If this issue was as common as some here are saying, this thread would be waaaaay longer than it is.

And not to get anyone ticked, but this issue, for some is like looking at a pimple on one's face every few minutes in a mirror.  i.e., for some, they are pushing their devices into situations on purpose, on a regular basis to keep validating to themselves they have a problem.

They just need to be patient and wait for the update.

This, may be one of the most intelligent, rational posts yet.  The other people we have to be aware of on here, are the ones with a hidden agenda.  I can usually spot them, as after they complain, they always mention that they will return the Air for a refund and buy another particular tablet.  I have been running mine through "normal" paces since I got it a couple weeks ago, and I have had both Facebook and a game (Witches by King, maker of candy crush) freeze the screen, and the unit had to be restarted.  I have not "tried" to get my iPad to crash, but the diagnostic log shows a handful of low memory crashes.  It is not to the point that I want to hurl my pad out the window, like many on here.  I will wait for the software update and hope for the best, as the positives outweigh the negatives, so far.

Heck, with all the problems I have suffered through, with Windows based hardware over the years, this is nothing

    Yes. Nice post.

The pimple analogy is spot on (excuse the pun).

I think it's fair to say we've all been guilty of the pimple squeezing at times in life when something gets up our goat. Good to also see some balance on these forums with some positive expeririences for those looking to buy or not. (That was me)

However I do acknowledge some owners are having/ have had major dramas so obviously mileage does vary. There's enough posts here on the apple community with some of those stories.  Go figure why mileage does vary so much. Does it matter if you set up the ipad with iTunes via wifi or by connecting with a cable to your mac/PC?

I'm one of the lucky ones. Touch wood yet again. I set up my ipad by connecting to my mac (whatever that's worth)

Having said that though I think we all agree that the ipad should be better and we shouldn't need to sometimes work around this ram related issue (eg closing apps). That fact is pretty poor so this all does fall back on apple and i think it's very sad to say the least. Even if things improve in 10 weeks.

Yeah any true apple fanboy/girl isn't taking the air back. It's a beautiful piece of hardware apple just needs more time to polish it.

I can understand after spending the money, one expects to have full satisfaction. But all the so called 'bugs' or defects of any apple products in the past have proved only to be softwares issues fixed by Apple. This one might be taking long time though, but I'm positive Apple will have a fix. Those who can afford will upgrade to newer iPads, when they enter market, those like me who intend to use it for at least 2 years, can we do anything other than wait? I'm not going to buy an Android in ANY case and I DO NEED a tablet. So yes, I'm going to wait. Had it been any other brand, I'd switch immediately.

Does anyone know how this compares to the iPad mini retina? Are both crashing the air and the retina mini? I have the 5s with 0 problems. I can open as many tabs as I want and while running a ton of apps. But I've been planning on buying the 128gb air however now I don't know if I want to. Are the new iPad airs doing this still? Is it a hardware issue?

I have a 4s with as good as no problems. And an ipad air 128 cellular with minimal probs.

In reading these forums in the last 2 months I wouldn't think there's much of a difference between the problems of the ipad air and the mini. Perhaps there's more posters here with ipad airs but the mini is also getting returns and issues. Perhaps less for the mini but I wouldn't let that away me in deciding which size IF I was considering picking up one of these.

I have read that there is a theory that it's the retina screen (ie screen resolution needed) that does put added pressure on these problems occurring.
