Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

'Yeah any true apple fanboy/girl isn't taking the air back. It's a beautiful piece of hardware apple just needs more time to polish it.'

    uh huh, nooooo, not true....

I do believe I am a true fanboy, everything in household is Apple; iphones, macbooks, bought iPads for kids, girlfriend, mother of girlfriend, nethew of girlfriend...

Guess what, I brought the Air back...

Well, I was going to wait and see but temptation got the better of me....  So here I am with a new iPad Air WiFi 64Gb.   Got it all installed with the "last" iOS release and I'll report my findings soon.  Finger crossed and hoping it's all going to work just fine.

iDevices use an Unified Memory Architecture, meaning there's no dedicated video memory for the GPU. CPU and GPU share the system memory. Well, iPhone 5s screen is 1136 x 640 pixels, iPad Air is 2048 x 1536 pixels. More memory needed on the iPad for rendering the video than on the iPhone.

Okay, so here it is :

    - Walt Mossberg's new site:

    http://recode.net/2014/01/02/its-not-a-church-its-just-an-apple-store/

Crash only if I fast scroll down the page.  If I use it normaly, I don't have any problem.  Does the same thing in both Safari and Chrome.

    - This site : http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/

Did not crash at all.  Was able to load the site and scroll without any problem.

    - I'm able to open iTune in landscape mode and watch a movie preview with no problem.

    - Double tapping on "Wallpapers & Brightness" in the settings does nothing (no crash).

So, I guess there is hope...!!!

I'm beginning to think Safari learns to crash.

My iPad 4 (a replacement) has been through all the fixes, and still crashes at the annoying but not dysfunctional level. Stated right after iOS 7 release. I did return an Air.

But about a month ago, my local newspaper site, started crashing on certain pages. It had never crashed before, even after iOS 7. And it seems to be getting steadily worse on this site.

Same site never has crashed on iPhone 5, but I view it there much less.

I'm not doing any fixes to see if it really is progressing.

What I find interesting is that no one out there in tech/hacker land has apparently found the cause or fix, and I'm convinced there are people other than Apple working on this. Which makes me wonder if Apple has found a workable fix. They're not going public with the issue until hey release a fix. But others ...?

Keep us updated on your 64 gb.

Also I don't think people really care ( and I do believe I'm speaking for the majority right now ) if a few certain websites crash because they aren't optimized correctly. I'm interested personally if these devices are crashing during apps, browsing anything in safari or just using the device in general. I don't care if machineryware house doesn't work but I do care if it crashes on anything.

I've made the 5s crash and it has also randomly restarted itself without me tryin to crash anything, so nope the 5s isn't perfect either. Better than the Air because it has less pixels but it does have gremlins.

I think people do care if Safari crashes, even at a "just annoying" level. The web is part of our workflow, what we do. We count on getting things done. We don't just consume info from the web.

Of course if Pages frequently crashed it could be worse ...

    Spare Parts

    Miscellaneous

    Crashed my 5S!!!

The good news it loaded fully this time, but once you start panning zooming and pinching it pukes and you will begin swearing.

Too early too tell maybe my cache had a fresh start but a bit better.

That page is a bugger to load anyway.

the problem is i never said " annoying levels are ok " Im saying if 2 websites make my ipad / iphone crash, i don't care and i don't think people do. 2 Specific sites I'm never going to use crashing doesn't bother me.

if its crashing at random on anything that is another thing.

Bad news. ReCode crashes too.  Try reading the comments and you will see. Heck it always crashes if you try leaving a comment. It's like once these heavy scripted WebKit sites fully load into memory Safari can't handle it anymore and jumps onto the tracks.

PS this isn't just a matter of two websites. You could be anywhere online and you will experience crashes like this. Could designers do a better job optimizing their sites?  Yes Sure. But if the sites never crashed before on iOS6 and other competitive devices then we are stuck with a bunch of bad apples.

I'm gonna pick up the next Nexus if this keeps up..we've all been giving apple too much slack here. Any other company would have been crucified for this.
