Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

i have heard that Apple is about to release a press statememnt later today based on customer feedback including this thread. the good oil on this says that the statement will announce two things:

all owners of the ipad air can replace it with a new form that is now circular and it has 1 inch of rubber right around it. it is designed to fly more uniformly across the room and will provide some shock resistance in its impact against the wall - the rubber ring is also removeable

and for the guy before that bought some ipads for his girlfriend, girlfriend's mother and others...if i could get an ipad for my mother in law, i would consider that a good swap

I kind of agree with You_Silly_Humans... I'm not going to get stressed by a poorly developed site that crashes Safari because in most cases that's a software  issue and in some cases not even caused by iOS software as much as bad webdev. What does concern me though is if there is some hardware issue with the iPad Air and I am sitting on a 64GB obsolete, unsellable iPad Air. I am up their with the most devout Apple supporters - I beta tested the first Macintoshs in 1984 (before they were on the market) and I have fought tooth and nail the naysayers ever since. I want to believe Apple will do the right thing with this issue - but I have to admit it makes me nervous considering I am still within my return window.

As of right now I only have the 5s so I can't speak personally. But there are people out there with 0 issues. As others have said they just obviously don't come here. There's also a lot of trolls so I wouldn't get too worried right off that bat but it is a real thing. I do however share in your concern as I was planning to buy a 128gb but I'm still debating on buying it or getting a lower gb model now. I have a hard the believing it would be a hardware issue.

I have a hard time doubting. I'm not here because I enjoy visiting random websites that crash the iPad, in fact I would not know about any of the sites that consistently reproduce the problem without having visited this thread and other similar threads. The reason that these sites are significant is not that they're popular destinations on the web but that they provide us some insight into the ability to reproduce the crashes that plague Safari. Safari crashes regularly while visiting just about any sites on the web for me. I don't believe the problem is isolated even to just Safari, as my mail and music apps similarly crash albeit much less regularly than Safari.

I experienced the crashing problem on an iPad air that I returned, and I experience the problem still yet on the Mini retina that I traded it in for. 64-bit processes do consume more RAM than the 32-bit counterparts, but I believe that the limited constraint on ram at 1 GB is low enough on similar devices that are 32-bit that those too would see the same types of problems but with a slightly reduced frequency. I suggest that the problem that is being discussed in this thread is limited to only 64-bit CPU carrying iOS devices.

I wouldn't have known about this thread if I didn't have a problem. I didn't come to the discussion board looking for problems, problems found me and then I came here. I see a lot of other people commiserating. That doesn't make necessarily feel better, but I guess we do at least have numbers.

I'll have to live with the problems for now. I have a class starting that requires the use of an iPad in a couple days, and I'm not about to go and return the device I have. Also my time is up for that option. I believe today was last day to return.

You're just making it crash, you aren't replicating anything. Also call me silly, but I doubt apple with their billions didn't take the 1gb into consideration. It's foolish to think they wouldn't have done the math and optimized accordingly. There are plenty who are enjoying their iPads. It has to be a mass hardware defect ( which is unlikely ) or more likely a software bug that will be fixed.

Are there thread stats available that show how many different posters there are?

I'm guessing that this, and similar threads are candidates for he longest ever on a single issue with no solution.

Antenna-Gate and Proximity Sensor issues created threads much longer than this thread.  This is certainly not the biggiest issue for an iDevice yet.  Not by a long shot.

Okay I'll bite. So the iPad mini I just sold did not have this problem whatsoever and nor does the iPhone 5 I have. Those devices are rock solid in comparison, the gen-one mini a bit sluggish. Somewhere around November 1, 2013.... I acquired not only an iPad air but a serious case of iPad-Morgellans. That I continue to experience iPad-Morgellans while using the replacement retina Mini is of no consequence, there is no correlation.

But at least with Antenna Gate the eventually admitted "Cupertino, we have a problem".  They fixed it with a free bumper and a video showing you how to hold your phone.  Maybe we are holding iOS 7 the wrong way or using it the wrong way.  It works perfectly when the device is on the table.

I just want someone from apple to slap me in the face and tell me it's not a hardware issue and it's safe to buy.

" I don't care if machineryware house doesn't work but I do care if it crashes on anything."

That's why there is a difference between what crashes posters care about and what crashes they don't care about. I shouldn't care if it crashes on iTunes because I rarely use it in my iPad BUT I do care. I care if it crashes on machinerywarehouse because I use that site to buy machinery and the miscellaneous section to buy components to repair machinery.

The point is that the problem should not occur on any site, no matter if its badly coded if other equipment doesn't have a problem. As I said in a previous post, every other iPhone, computer, Tablet in my household will load that site, just not my Air and that what irks me.

Well the rest of us don't care. I care if my devices functions not if I can but machinery on the go lol..

Funny how just about every discussion with over 200 posts have hundreds of thousands of views, except this thread. This thread has over 500 posts, but somehow a fraction of the views of other high posting threads....very fishy indeed.

I am glad I returned my 2 iPad Airs- no more aggravating multiple daily crashes here. My iPad 4 works great on IOS6. If Apple doesnt fix the problem soon, I will be switching to some other brand tablet. I have been actively searching for a good replacement for the last couple of months.

Also glad I stuck with my iPhone 5. I will not be upgrading my phone anytime soon.

At least for me- Apple is running out of time to get their act together.

My iphone 5s is amazing. I've also seen you post multiple times in this thread talking about other products. Your posts are the only thing fishy here.
