Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

    Re: Ios7 problems, safari crashes

    Nov 24, 2013 10:18 AM (in response to H2oplayer)

The senior advisor I've been talking to just called and said the engineers said they had duplicated the crash. Nice!

He emphasized that people and others should continue to call AppleCare, tell them the problem, and ask to speak to a senior advisor.

He said to emphasize the Safari browser crashes. Senior advisors should be aware of the problem. You might say you'll be glad to send them data. He also said the Geniuses should not be replacing devices.

I would advise doing the "fixes" before calling: Clearing history and cache, and restoring to a new device (if you have an iTunes backup for later). That way you can say "been there, done that".

I think is probably a problem that  looks a lot easier to solve than it is. I've yet to have an experience where Apple didn't want and try to solve a problem. Steve Jobs is still watching.

Just wondering, do you experience app crashes besides web browsers?

99% of my crashes are accounted by chrome and safari.

If you use the twitter.com crash method described in this thread it doesnt matter what browser I use - I tried Chrome and Safari - both crashed and generated a low memory error in Diag and Usage. Doesnt matter if it was restored from backup or restored as new, doesn't matter if it was iPad Air or iPad 4th Gen - both crash with same error.

I got my call back from an Apple senior advisor this morning. They had me go through the usual stuff - reset all, restore as new, restore from backup, send diagnostics, etc. I've had a few more low memory crashes since all of that was done. I didn't expect anything to be fixed, but now I have a case number in addition to the ticket numbers that I received before. My opinion is that it's got to be a software problem. The more complaints to Apple, the faster it should be fixed.

Here's what I did and my iPad Air stopped having low memory issues.  I backed up my iPad then connect my iPad to my PC. Opened iTunes then created a new profile and not used my old iPad profile. I then install my apps one by one. It seems that my old profile was corrupted. It has been 3 days and my iPad haven't had any low memory issues and my apps never had some issues when I'm using it.  It is a bit time consuming to install your apps one by one at least u won't have anymore crash issues.

Already created a new profile on my iTunes for the iPad and resynced everything from scratch and I'm still having one or two crashes a day, the only thing you mention is you installed your apps one by one, does this mean you added an app at a time and then re-synced if not it certainly isn't the cure for everybody as a few people on this thread have tried this.

Also when you re-installed your apps did you install every single one you had on before because if it is is fixed for you perhaps the problem is to do with certain apps being installed?

    hi all.

Iam experiencing this on my ipad 4th generation with 64gb ram. (model:MD512B/A    IOS installed: 7.0.4 (11B554a).

This is a 'new' Ipad, after Apple Center substituted my old one for some screen issue, 1 week ago.

I dont remember this issue was present with old one too, but in the while, there were many IOS update, so it could be that as well.

Iam reporting low memory too and i just get rid of dynamic wallpaper, so iam in the 'watching' phase now to see if it happens again.

Iam also having some wifi issue, but this could be another problem.

Hope Apple can solve it as soon as possible, because this is not exactly the excellence one exspects from them.

Iam ready to collaborate to help.

    thanks

    Mike

@asul11: Did you see if you can make it crash by doing the below:

    1. Open up safari.

    2. Go to google and type in any celebrity twitter page.  I did "kobe bryant twitter".

    3. Go to the twitter page and scroll down to load more content.

    4. Tap the "tap to load more tweets".  Do this about 3 times until there are a lot of tweets on that page.

    5. after you do this 3-4 times you should be all the way at the bottom of the page.  Quickly scroll back up to the of the page, and during this time, your safari should crash. Happens everytime.

Many of us have Safari crashes on brand new devices.

Call Aaplecare and ask to speak to a senior advisor. They need the info .

I reported in this thread that I took my iPad Air to the Genius Bar on about November 13. The tech replace iOS with a fresh copy and told me to set it up as a new device, rather than restoring from backup. Since then, I have had exactly one crash and restart, although there have been numerous low memory reports that are not associated with crashes.

Just before writing this, I performed the twitter test documented earlier in this thread using Safari. Safari did crash as I was loading more tweets, but the iPad did not restart. The crash was confined to Sari only. There is a low memory report recorded at the time of the crash.

I had to reinsall my app one at a time. I tried using sync in iTunes in my PC and it didn't work so what I did I used my iPad and clicked on paid apps and click install for each app.  I named my device using a new name.  After the clean restore and installing my apps I used twitter, Safari, emails, HBO, Netflix, DirecTV, Comic book apps, Amazon Prime, etc. and my iPad Air stopped crashing.

I had this issue on a white 32GB ipad air wifi.

Happened around the 7.0.4 update, but I can't be sure as I had swapped out my original Ipad air as it had a dodgy screen.

I can replicate it easily by opening a selection of apps i normally use; netflix, iplayer, comixology etc and then double tapping the home button and scolling through the apps.

9/10 it will restart - white screen and black logo and back to the lock screen.

Apple support are sending me a replacement.  I argued it was software but let's see what happens.

NB. Restore and restore as new ipad did not resolve it.

Going on day three after manually restoring my iPad as a new machine and re-downloading all of my apps one by one. I also deleted my iPad 4 restore so that I wouldn't use it. After doing all of this I have not had the respring issues, I see low memory errors, in diagnostics, but did not experience any crashes. But even if this does work I'm not sure this is a "works as designed". This is still a problem with 7.0.4 and should be fixed. Restoring manually only works for some of us and is a workaround not a fix.
