Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

    Silly Humans,

Yes there are some trolls on here, I am not one of them.  I have been dealing with this issue with my Ipad since IOS 7 came out, and with each update it has gotten worse for me, to the point that my ipad will crash on safari just opening amazon due to low memory issues.  You are correct it is a software issue, iOS 7 uses too much memory, and it is a hardware issue with only 1Gb of ram on the IPad Air and 512mb on IPad mini.  This is also not the first time apple has messed up on something.  Lets not forget the issue with the IPhone 4 case and loosing reception by holding the phone in your hand.  Apples solution...  they gave everyone a free case to stop this.  Apple is not without thier mistakes.   When my IPad worked fine with no issues on iOS 6 and after upgrading to iOS7 crashes all the time on safari, iPhoto, even looking through my camera roll.  That is an issue and more and more people are experiencing this.

Well, been playing alot with my iPad, surfing all the usual site I go to with Safari and Chrome, pinch, zoom, reply to forums and all and I've yet to have a crash.  Site that I visit often are : Engadget, Neowin, Anadtech, HardOCP, CNN, Facebook (even if I have the app), and many auto blog site.  I'm not looking for site that WILL crash my iPad, I'm just using it like I would normaly.  I guess I'm just lucky.

Tried to surf all thoss site with other apps open, just to simulate some heavy usage and it performed quite well.  I play with Candy Crush, Asphalt 8, Real Racing 3, watch a movie with Netflix.

I'm happy.  Normal daily usage for me is not causing any crash.  Just checked the diagnostics and I have no Low mem warning.

That's it for me!  I hope that the next release of iOS fix all the problems you guys are having.

There is a problem, maybe listen to the MacBreak Weekly episode of this week?

iOS 7 is (at the moment) a piece of crap. the previous ios is at this point better; no crashes, iBooks looks beautiful again, just slower. That said, I'm sure an iOS update will fix the issues and then with a new iPad with memory increase, I'll be happy again.

Stephane, I'm curious. What brought you to this thread? Did you hear elsewhere there was an issu?

Also, Apple might be interested in your iPad for testing.

I always do some research before buying, Google is my friend.  Nothing beats "ipad air crash" to get some important information.  So that how I ended up here.  I wanted to buy the iPad Air, got scared reading everything here but decided to do it anyway.

I guess that if ALL iPad Air had problems, crash and all, it would be all over the news, in every tech site.  I posted on many forum asking about iPad memory problem and crash and got almost all reply of "no problem at all".  Some (many) don't like iOS 7, but do not report crash.

And it's my experience overall, it works.  The only crash I could get is when visiting that Walt Mossberg's new site that is posted here.  Since I never go to that site, I don't realy care...

    Stephanie,

I did my research as well when I bought my Ipad mini back in April, at the time it was perfect for what I needed.  Since iOS7 came out i have been unable to use my ipad.  My personal favorite is on my ipad mini looking up the article on 9to5mac.com   http://9to5mac.com/2013/11/08/a-week-with-the-ipad-air-in-three-words-believe-th e-hype/

and my ipad kept crashing because it was running out of memory.   The fact of the matter is before iOS 7 came out the ipads were functioning great, and most people were not having any issues.  As Peterdev has said iOS 7 is crap and is causing a lot of head aches.

    @Wemdog:

This exact article on 9to5mac does crash my iPad in Chrome and it's working fine on my Nexus 7 2013 also in Chrome.  In fact, I can scroll much faster on my Nexus.  No problem with IE (Desktop and RT) on my Surface 2.  The only device that I have unable to render this page completely is my BB PlayBook, not because it crash, but because it's too slow to load...  And YES, I have all those tablets...

But looking at other stuff on 9to5mac does not make the iPad crash, so my guess is the lenght of the page, with the tons of comments, that must destroy Webkit in iOS 7 (used by Chrome and Safari).

So, there you go, it does crash, but only with this article with the very long page of comments.

You people are ridiculous, and Italy real mature man, name calling. There is nothing wrong with iPads, you guys have to be trolling. Look at the reviews online all over, amazon, bestbuy, walmart. Every store has great reviews. You are just 3 sad trolls who have nothing better to do then keep posting

It would be nice if folks like yourself would quit cluttering up this thread so those of use discussing this very real problem can discuss.

Been reading and just wanted to add my experience. Found this site looking for info on why my air was crashing when using  safari. Do most of my surfing on my iPad. Usually 2 or 3 tabs open at a time. It would crash once a day easy. I went to the air after years of  service with original iPad which was oh so long in the tooth. Everything was faster etc but the crashes were just annoying. Trying to decide to just live with it. Instead I returned it when I found out about the holiday return policy extension. My buddy and mother in laws new mini does the same thing but they don't really care. Prob would have kept if not for the holiday deal giving me the option to return. Roll back to my iPad and see if it gets fixed in a month or so before I even consider trying something else. Also my screen wouldn't rotate every blue moon but that was really a non issue to me. Through this process I did discover where to look at diagnostic and it was memory loss crashes

If you don't have any problem, why are you even here?  Why post if you have nothing good to contribute to this thread?  Be happy that you don't have any problem and move on.

    Thanks.

    Silly,

You are the one who comes off as silly. Apple doesn't need you to defend it. I have been following this thread from the beginning. I have an iPhone 5s, and although not as bad or as frequently as some have reported here, it has the same kinds of problems. Some webpages cause Safari to crash. My email on the iPhone 5s crashed just today. All of the websites noted that crash the iPad air also crash my iPhone 5s.

You really don't need to be an Apple cheerleader. These problems are real. We are not looking for sites that crash our devices, merely reporting the ones that do to see if others experience the same performance.

Depending on one's surfing habits and the number of times the device or app crashes during the day determines if it's merely annoying or extremely frustrating. There are some very frustrated yet Apple loving people on this forum.

I am in the camp of people who just want Apple to fix this.

And yes there is a lot of speculation about whether this is hardware, software, 64-bit, or some other problem. Many of us are in the tech community and are very aware of our systems. We don't need you to tell us there is nothing wrong when there plainly is.

I had the same concerns about the crashes that I got without even going to the web pages suggested.  I have an original iPad and have been long suffering from slowness and crashes and the fact that it was made obsolete so quickly.  Saying that, however, I can still use it so the real problem is that it seems slow.  Many of the crashes I get on the Air are from trying to move too quickly.

I was ready to return it on Monday fearing the worst that it was underpowered.  My husband who isn't even interested in the iPad asked me why.  These gadgets all have a shelf life and I will probably want a newer model sooner than this one would wear out.  I decided to trust that this will be corrected in a software update and even if it isn't, it is so much better than my previous iPad.  So, I restored as new on my iMac, left any games off, reset the settings to what I preferred and I haven't had very many programs quit though I had one springboard but again, I think it was because I was trying to do something before a program had fully loaded.  I am slowing down my actions and I think it is operating much better.

I told a friend who also has the iPad air about my problems and she said she had no problems but then a day later said hers crashed as well and she got the "Apple logo".  I think that this is happening to a lot of people and they are just not paying attention to it.

Would I recommend an iPad air to a friend?  Very likely yes though I may advise them about my experience.
