Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

People. Understand none of his is going to fix anything. Call AppleCare and ask for a senior advisor.

Apple is no on it, even if the Geniuses aren't.

Right now, the restores and replacements and buying a new device are a fools errand.

That is correct. Eventhough my iPad Air haven't crashed since last Sunday my case number is still active.

My ticket is still open as well because the restore is not a fix. So I'm not reporting it as one.

I have had this same problem with the iPad Air that I got a couple weeks ago.  It occurred with iOS 7.0.3 (I think) before updating it to 7.0.4.  7.0.4 did not improve it; if anything, it made it a little worse.

Before (and since) getting the iPad Air, I was having the same problem with my (previously) trusty iPad 2 and iPhone 5 ever since updating to iOS 7 in September.

I have made a couple discussion threads on the topic and posted in several others.  Hopefully Apple will be forthcoming with a fix soon.

As others have suggested, contact AppleCare and request that you talk to a senior advisor. Make sure they open a case and that you get a case number.

I couldn't recreate the problem using the Twitter method on a 64GB iPad 2 running iOS 7.0.4, but I can every time using an iPad Air

Same thing here.  Regualr crashes - never had them with ipad 2.  A HUGE disappointment (and I've already sold my lovely ipad 2 :( )

Guess what. The iPad Air has he same amount of memory as a 4 year old Android phone.

64 bit processor needs to reserve more ram for apps. The quad core GPU needs memory.

ONE GIGABYTE of RAM in a device from the "leader" of the Tablet industry, going into 2014?  Really?

There is no software fix for this.

This was pure stupidity by Apple. Steve Jobs may be watching, but he sure isn't influencing quality anymore.

Corporate greed eclipses quality and good business sense at Apple, AGAIN.

I predict a new iPad in 6 months- with more memory (the minimum the corporate bean counters will allow).

That old kettle of fish again, I wondered how long it would take to bring that subject up in this topic that is another subject and does not help the fault atm and is not productive, although it would have been nice to have 2gb it would still have crashed as it's a software fault, I can get a crash with no other applications open (I closed them all) and just safari with two to three tabs open.

Also people are seeing the crashes on other devices with iOS 7 if it was just the 64bit part and lack of memory that wouldn't happen...

Wrong. As I stated, the 64 bit CPU needs to reserve more memory than the 32 bit CPU does, for the same apps.

Install a memory monitor from the app store, open a few apps and then open 8 tabs in Safari....CRASH BOOM CRASH BOOM

You did not read my post clearly the problem occurs with ONLY one application open (safari) so is not down to only having 1gb do you even have an iPad air or are you just trolling this thread?

You are obviously a moron, or you work for Apple and are trying to contain the problem before its more widely known. I see you defending the lack of memory on other web sites.

I am an IT person. I am on my SECOND iPad Air. It is a complete fail, and it will be widely known within a month or two.

I never had problems with my previous iPads crashing, nor did I ever complain about your "kettle of fish" memory problem until the iPad Air.

I use the iPad for 8+ hours a day, and it is a TOTAL FAIL from the get go when it comes to using it anywhere NEAR as intensively as the iPad 4 or the iPad 3.  It crashes and crashes and crashes.

Ios takes 300+ MB of RAM from the start. When the RAM usage gets near 700 MB, IOS starts shutting things down. That means open only a couple Safari Tabs, and BOOM CRASH BOOM CRASH.

It is totally annoying, I am totally bummed. I am trying to figure out what tablet to buy to replace it. Totally ***** for me.

Tell your corporate bean counter buddies they REALLY screwed this one up.

Now I know you are trolling as I have never posted on any site about the lack of memory on the iPad air an certainly do not work for Apple (I could ask you if you work for samsung), the fact is you clearly haven't read my post this thread is for a particular issue that can occur with only one app open not just several, and even if 1gb is a low amount if properly memory managed shouldn't be a problem to most people that fact is this is a bug pure and simple with iOS 7 that apple need to fix, it's just the timescales that are important here so let's keep this thread on topic otherwise this issue will never get fixed.

Many people are seeing the Safari crash across all iPads with iOS 7. I've had it in an iPad 4 and it's replacement.

OMG this is my last attempt at SCHOOLING you, all.

I have a four year old laptop with 8 gigs of RAM. When I open up multiple tabs, the RAM usage goes OVER 2 gigs....and I use adblocker, noscript and flashblock (among other Firefox add ons) to control the junk on a web page.

.....And that is just the browser.

Plain and simple- ONE GIG of RAM isn't enough.

Like I said- load a hardware monitor and see how many processes and RAM is being used or reserved on the iPad Air...

IT STARTS OUT PRACTICALLY TAPPED OUT ON MEMORY.

Keep blaming the crashes on IOS7- ....yes, IOS7 uses more memory, so its causing other devices to crash as well. The 64 bit processor puts the iPad Air over the edge.

Mark my words, this one gig RAM snafu is gonna be a biggie. Thats probably why they are dumping the iPad Air in holiday sales at $120 lower price.....Because they wanna get them out before the public WAKES UP to the DISASTER....a freshly released iPad Air marked off $120?? Figure it out.

You two that are defending the Air have no history as forum members, but you sure are defending this screw up BIg Time.

I can't wait to come back to these posts and this thread in a month or two, after this is memory screw up is exposed (and Apple stock dives again) to see how your user status will probably say "this user is no longer active" or some such, so I won't be able to say "I told you so- what do you have to say now?"
