Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

    Gordy,

My iPad Air (ios 7.0.4) didn't suffer from Safari crashes, but its  iTunes Store app crashed regularly while previewing movies with the app when holding the iPad Air in a horizontal/landscape position.  After swapping it and reporting the problems to Apple, the crashes continued.  I recently returned my iPad Air for a full refund.

Not sure if you had the same problem too, but may I ask for a favour... May you please try previewing different movies (action, documentaries, etc) in the iTunes app store on your iPad and see if it crashes?

    Thanks

Well, I finally got my iPad replaced today and so far so good. No crashes in iTunes or Safari, and only one LowMemory error in the logs. It's only been a few hours of using the new one though.

It is not resolved. In my log I count 56 low memory crashes since 1/6. The latest one was 20 min ago. I have an ipad Air 16 GB LTE. Very annoying. By far the most significant apple defect i ever experienced and this my fourth Ipad version that I own.

Honestly your never going to not see low memory warning. I've seen it on my iphone my bf iphone on iPad air iPad mini. They all have it. The main issue of concern is about the soft reboots. Those are what you should be concerned about. Furthermore my iPad also had crummy audio something with the speaker but after a while I guess it just broke in and sounds beautiful now :). My iPad did have the soft reboots when I got it nov 11 but now no soft reboots, even after restoring it I've been using it for about 2 days still no soft reboots. For me at least all problems are resolved.

Hi, does anyone know an apple.com url that makes crash the safari in ipad air?

This would be a very clear argument to apple support...

    Best,

Agreed re you'll often see  some low memory warning.

I've never had a major drama with mine at all (since Christmas eve). I am mindful of the lack of the ram so I do close background apps quite often to keep things running well and avoid hiccups - that's not a big thing for me except that this should really not be the case where you have to be mindful of managing tight ram levels

    Is it perfect? No.

Am I enjoying it. Without a doubt.

Is it good enough? Not for a $1000 product!

But I am happy with the experience I'm having with it nonetheless. But I believe I'm one of the the lucky majority (touch wood). As there are some people obviously having major issues.

    Mileage seems to vary considerably.

Someone here made a comment a few pages ago saying that for some, it's like when you keep looking at a pimple in the mirror and you keep squeezing it. Sometimes you just have to let go and not keep looking for what (eg) web pages won't work on it and how you can make it crash. Let me be clear that that does not include some that have had major dramas with their use of the ipad air

There are quite a few good comments here and other threads/forums re the 3rd beta of ios 7.1. There are also some negative mind you but who can you believe? I trust ios 7 will get better and issues will decrease to make some inroads in what is a premature release on a product that seems to have tried cutting corners either in testing/ development or specs.

I have all the normal crash triggers, iTunes movies etc, but have had no soft reboots for a while ( I had some in the first couple of weeks ) yes certain sites in safari also cause crashes. Wired thing I've noticed lately though is when opening safari a web page that I viewed and closed a good week ago or more flashes up before the current tabs load. This has been a number of different pages, not just one. Could this be part of the safari problem?

My issue with the Air is resolved. I' not going to rehash this all over again, but you can read my comments on page 10 and 12 to see what I did. Since then the Air works to my satisfaction. I use it probably 10 hours a day because I recharge the battery every day.

I honestly don't find the air to be too problematic, I'm a light user, and it's my first ipad. It does annoy me that such a pricey flagship device does this though. I'm hoping an update will fix it, or I'll try the wipe and wired re-install.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this 'ghost' web page thing?

Um, truth be told, I was the person who commented it's like looking at a pimple in the mirror.  Feel free to go back through the thread and you'll see.  But in case you don't want to take the time, I have included my exact verbage from that post.........

@Tulkinghorn : That's why I said to take my test with a grain of salt.  But during that 10 mins, I tried a couple of site that people here say that crash their iPad Air.  I did not experience those crash.  Same with iTune in landscape mode.  What I forgot to check is the version of iOS, maybe they were not running 7.0.4

I think it's still weird that Apple would want to cover that up.  Just come out clean and say it's going to be fixed in the next release of iOS that's all.

From my post on January 6th:

Apple has a storied history of just fixing things quietly, without any fanfare.  They're not covering anything up.  They will just release an update and this thread, like other threads over issues that were problematic for "some" users will retire.

Always remember that this forum is like a hospital.  There are those of us who are here all the time trying to help people.  And then there are all the patients who come here for help.  It gives a rather skewed view to how the device is actually behaving in most users hands.  If this issue was as common as some here are saying, this thread would be waaaaay longer than it is.

And not to get anyone ticked, but this issue, for some is like looking at a pimple on one's face every few minutes in a mirror. i.e., for some, they are pushing their devices into situations on purpose, on a regular basis to keep validating to themselves they have a problem.

They just need to be patient and wait for the update.
