Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Looks like the people who claim there are no problems are hijacking this thread, which is about crashing problems.

    Thanks Voodoo and Gordy.

It seems that perhaps iOS 7.1 beta 3 may have addressed the crashes with the iTunes Store app I was experiencing (Voodoo experienced too on his recent test with 7.0.4).

I am faced with an interesting choice... 1) wait for iOS 7.1 to be released and then repurchase an iPad Air, or 2) buy iPad 4th generation from a retailer that's blowing out inventory.  I used my iPad 2 for emails, web surfing and occasionally movie watching... not sure I get much more from an iPad Air, however, I like that it weighs much less than iPad 4.  Anyway, I will noodle my decision.

    Fingers crossed with iOS 7.1!

Problem resolved for some, but not others.

I have been resisting saying this, but as an armchair detective ... what if:

Early models had a hardware defect?

A quality control problem that has since been fixed?

Combined with an unoptimized iOS 7. Maybe some of the code in 7.1 is a software workaround for these early units.

Better but not perfect. The revised builds performing even better.

All pure conjecture. Apple will never admit either way.

I bought 2 ipad 4's- a 16GB wifi for $350 and a 16Gb Cellular for $399. I personally am not buying an iPad Air until it is bumped up in memory.

It's really simple if you're using Safari and it all of a sudden closes and you are on your app grid that is a foreground crash.  With safari this will always be accompanied with a LowMemory log.

If you monitor your logs and notice apps there generating LatestCrash like mail, messages , and other apps those are crashes that occurred with apps in the background.

If you are using an app and your screen totally FReEzeS AND no input is accepted then you're either forced to do a hard reset by holding power and the home button at the same time, then that's a Crash. Ditto if it automatically restarts itself.  This is also known as the BSOD from the windows 98 days.

All of the above happen frequently on my iPad Air even with the latest and greatest 7 dot won bee three.

Apple has their work cut out for them. I wonder why other comments weren't deleted stating the issue is fixed. IT Is NOT FiXED!!!

If your problems are solved great you can leave or offer advice or feedback to solve the issue. If on the other hand you don't even own an iPad Air and are in denial that the mighty apple iPad air suffers from low memory issues causing crashes, why are you here?

2 million people have bought the ipad air, maybe 2000 people are whining all over the web max. Hate to break it to ya, that's well within the realm of normal. It's pretty simple math. Not all software and hardware will be perfect. But 2000 whiners to 1998000 people enjoying their tablets says there is no problem at all.

Not that I want to defend anyone like ronfromtoronto, but the fact is for "some" people, they are experiencing issues that are marring their enjoyment and use of their iPad Air.  For someone like ronfromtoronto, his perspective is the issue is not resolved.  True, he doesn't speak for the millions of users who likely don't have an issue, like me, but saying there is "no problem" is not accurate or fair.  And as has been pointed out by you, you don't even own an iPad Air.

Yeah it's solved. That's pretty basic math about 0.1% of the buyers will experience problems that to them seem to make the ipad air defective. For that 0.1%, please relax because you can either return your device or wait for the update. I don't see what else there is left to figure out?

I'm not saying people can't still complain, i'm just telling you there is nothing left to figure out...

Like I said, this thread has been hijacked by people claiming they have no problems with the ipad. And they are repeating, repeating, repeating everything they said, again and again and again.

    Pretty sure they represent Apple.

Because I for one, can come up with no other reason why people who dont have problems with the ipad are totally hijacking said thread.

OK, YOU DONT HAVE A PROBLEM, GOOD

Now let the people WITH a problem discuss them- thats what the thread is for.

This is a user-to-user forum. The only Apple employees here are the Hosts, who can be identified by a purple apple avatar. They rarely post outside of the Using Apple Communities Forums. You may get email from them if you have a post removed for a TOU violation. The other Apple employees are the Community Specialists. They answer certain categories of questions that have gone unanswered for over 24 hours. No one from either group has posted in this thread.

When people implying (or sometimes stating) that all iPad Airs have this problem, someone like me or rbrylawski posting to say, no, not all of them do is not hijacking the thread. It's posting an different position on the topic at hand. It is well within the bounds of acceptable posting. If you don't wish to read such posts, you certainly don't have to.

Unless someone is violating the Terms of Use, they can post, even if you don't like it. I will continue to post when and where I see fit.

    Best of luck.

With an attitude as poor as yours, you don't deserve a break.  I think I'll stick around and continue to let people know not ALL iPads have an issue.  As Meg suggested, if you don't like it, don't read or respond to me or anyone not sharing your view.  Your incessant whining is accomplishing nothing.  You can't solve your problem by whining.  You can only:

    1.  Sell your device and move on to something else

    2.  Wait for an update, which hopefully will provide resolution to you.

But you can't censor us or stop us from adding another view.
