Q: Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Lelesmurf- I went to the Apple store as well and recreated what caused my iPad Air to crash on both the mini retina and the Air. I did it on about 20 devices. They ALL CRASHED. In the store. That is 100% crash rate, in MY experience.  My heavy multi-app, multi-tab use caused ALL the iPad Airs and iPad Mini Retinas to CRASH. I am including when the App closes and shoots back to the springboard. Because that is a crash- when an app closes itself and work is lost.

Funny how a few people on here are stating 20 times + and still going that their ipads arent crashing, when the store ipads had 100% crash/fail rate.

    Zyphilxz,

i did the same thing at my apple store, and the manager then said "well you have to wait for the next software update and hopefully that will fix it... that is all I can do" after having it replaced twice!!!  That is why I called apple support....

Im tired of the "genius" in the store acting as if their products are the end all and have no issues what so ever...  I should have another update from apple tomorrow.

    Wemdog and Lelesmurf,

That is 3 of us who have recreated crashes on all the iPad 64 bits in the store. How unusual for us. The Apple "plant" deniers claiming the crash rate is .5% or 1%..... yet at least 3 of us found the crash rate at 100%, in the store in front of Apple employees.

By the way, Macmall has a blowout on iPad 4's- $399 for 16GB cellular, for one.

The thing that I'm worried about is the reboot however. At the store I can't reproduce a reboot as it happens on my ipad air...maybe because I can't test the iPad exposed for hours as I do with my own iPad. After the call at support and the DFU restore as new of the device I still have a lot of crashes (today with safari, pages, penultimate, Google drive, facebook and other apps in the same day!). If the problem after reinstalling iOS isn't resolved for the apple support is an hardware problem and they said to me to recall support and send the device to the assistance. What it's strange for me is that apple support itself denied a problem with iOS for this issue and denied that a lot of people have the same problem! Now I'm wondering if I must try to send my ipad to assistance...seeing that not all have annoying reboot and crash with their ipad.

Another strange thing is that after the DFU restore of the device I have a lot of lowmemory warnings in the diagnostic even if I don't have crash....

    lelesmurf,

apple support initially said they had never heard of it (first level) but as I got up into the third and fourth level of support they have heard of it.  I have done both wired and wireless restores and reinstallation of the iOS, also have restore from various back ups and also set up as new and no effect on the issues.

Support shouldnt be like a video game, where you have to level up to get ahead...

I have been having low memory crashing, which is odd since I am not close to using all of the memory in my IPad. I have gone to the Apple Store and had is exchanged for a new one, but I'm still experiencing the low memory crashing.

Should I exchanged this one as well?

Return it and buy an iPad 4 at Macmall. Wait until they release an iPad with more memory. Thats my advice.

Kudos to everyone that stopped by an Apple store and brought this issue to the attention of the staff.

We need an official response from Apple on what devices owners can expect.

My mother, a pilot, bought a brand new iPad air and she will be using it in flight.

It would not hurt my feeling any if the FCC suspends its certification of new Apple devices until they are demonstrably more fault-tolerant.

Hi Guys, I'm from germany and my english is pretty bad.

But I want to say something too.

I have the same problem with my iPad Air and my iPhone 5s.

But the "Low Memory-Crashes" are not the problem for me.

But often they end in a completely Ringspring (White Apple on black Ground) for both devices.

Thats the real problem for me!

It happens every 1 to 2 days. Sometime twice a day...

Ive already spoken to the support...

They gave me lots of Tests to do... But the problem is still there...

They told me to repair both Devices...

    But Apple... Serios?!

I think I have to hope for 7.1...

    Or someone real genuis....

    Hi!

I already did the same experiment, before Christmas, all the iPad air of my apple retail store crashed in the same circumstances of mine. Personally speaking, I'm not worried about app crash cause I think this problem could be resolved through software update. I'm very worried and disappointed about the reboot! Cause I have never experienced something like this on an apple device... People changed the iPad twice and more, but the reboot still there....I would like to know if it is a software problem too...

Ps: I was not able to replicate the reboot on the apple store iPads but I "play" with them only a few minutes... Moreover I don't know what circumstances generate the reboot...

    Hi L0st0ne,

You are experiencing the "soft reboot".... I did a restore the firs time I had a reboot, and the situation now is going better, the problem is still there but it is very mitigated. Try!

I don't think that a replacement or repair both devices will solve something.... We have to wait for 7.1 and see what happens...

I'm not convinced that the reboot issue is a hardware only problem, though. My 1st gen iPad mini has had a few soft reboots since installing ios7, and I didn't have any with ios6.

I agree with you, it is the same opinion I made reading this threads...
