ApplicationsMaybe it needs to pointed out that you're not dealing Apple personnel here, but with other users whom you are asking to help you voluntarily. Do you want to proceed?

Nov 7, 2013 8:47 AM in response to Linc Davisby Michael Battenfield,Llinc,
I believe you are completely misunderstanding me ... I posted that last update while on the phone with tech support (followed the instructions on the email I received from Apple Support with my Case ID)

Nov 7, 2013 8:58 AM in response to Linc Davisby Michael Battenfield,But here is what I was told - after being asked to install a little app to share my screen with a tech:
- The reason "update" is shown next to "Pages" and the other iWork apps is because I currently have verseion 4.3 installed - thus not the newest.
- Nobody could tell me why I get an error about a "different AppleID"... They didn't even TRY to pursue that.
- I was then instructed to drag my Pages app to the trash and empty trash... So I did that.
- Then the MacApp Store offers Pages at $19.99 as a purchase.
- I was told my version was not eligible for update - I had to pay to upgrade.
- I was told the "free" update was ONLY for those who purchased a computer with iWorks installed AFTER October 2013... (Of course, I was told earlier by the first support person that the update is free for those with iWorks and any computer that came with Lion or later...).
{{if you go to the official Pages app page on Apple's web site and scroll all the way to the bottom, in tiny light-grey print is the following:
Pages is free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers purchased on or after October 1, 2013. OS X Mavericks required. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.
- But then I was told that my iWorks apps would not update because it was installed from DVD (it was not - I remembered that the old install I had on disc was for my old iBook). iWork came installed on this MacBook Pro (bought directly from Apple).
So... I guess with all the complaints I've been reading in other threads about massive loss of features and tools, many of which I need - there is no way I'm going to pay $19.99 for each app...
And I'm still irritated that the AppStore STILL shows (now that I have restored my previous Pages from Time Machine) my iWork apps with "update" next to them - nothing about BUYING the update/upgrade - but simply "update".
I don't get it.

Nov 7, 2013 9:06 AM in response to Linc Davisby Michael Battenfield,And my biggest frustration of all - my original question was never addressed - AT ALL by either person I spoke with:
WHY:
?
WHAT OTHER APPLE ID could possibly be associated with ANYTHING on my MacBook Pro???
Is this a case, much like in the old Mac System 7 days when the OS didn't really know what the problem was, it would just spit out a stupid and unusable error message?

ApplicationsPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Nov 9, 2013 5:18 PM in response to zhengxiby Michael Battenfield, zhengxi,
Is your current version of Pages (iWork) the most recent (before the new one we are trying to get)? Did it come installed on your computer, buy it form the App Store, or install from DVD?
I wan't offered a download code. Was simply told I would have to buy the new version...

Nov 9, 2013 6:14 PM in response to Michael Battenfieldby melomedia,I am experiencing the same issue... I downloaded the pages/numbers/keynote upgrade; and now I have 2 update notifications for imovie and iphoto; however, each time I attempt to update those apps, after signing in with my apple id, I get the same "update unaivalable with this apple id" pop up. There is no other ID associated with my macbook.
Did you ever find a way around this???

Mar 13, 2014 5:10 PM in response to Michael Battenfieldby ph19er,After upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks today I went to software update and was notified that updates were available for iBooks, iPhoto and iMovie.
The iBooks update was successful but for the other two I received the "update unavailable message..." I thought I had somehow created some problem during the upgrade, but on checking this forum kind of relieved to see I am not alone in experiencing this.
I rarely use iMovie and use Photoshop more than iPhoto I'm not in any rush to update so I'll wait and see if a solution turns up. One concern, is this likely to happen with any future updates to other apps I've purchased from the Store.

Mar 13, 2014 5:34 PM in response to ph19erby Dah•veed,Have you ever successfully updated these two iLife apps in the past? What are their version numbers?
-
Mar 13, 2014 6:04 PM in response to Dah•veedby powerbook1701,I noticed a software update via the software update function called "Mac App Store Update 1.0"
Maybe that would help
