Loading mini dvd into superdrive

Can I load camcorder mini dvds into my ibook superdrive slot? If not, is there a full size dvd "adaptor / carrier" that the mini dvd can be put in and the whole thing loaded into the slot?

Thx.

echyv,

Thanks for asking my question. The lack of compatibility seems to put a dent in iLife.

But, as a piggy-back question/new thread: My mini-DVD camcorder (a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD92) has a 10-pin video out port and came with a cable for it with RCA jacks on the other end (so that the camcorder could be hooked up to a VCR or TV).

Has anyone found a cable that either has the 10-pin a/v male and Firewire of USB 2.0 males at the other end? Or one that has RCA females on one end and a USB 2.0 or Fireware male at the other end? This might be a workaround.

Thanks.

GaryS-InAlabama, Welcome to the discussion area!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the reviews of that camcorder indicate it is suitable only for those who want to make a quick little DVD and nothing else. The reviews refer to it is a 'gimmick' camera. It has neither USB to output still photos nor a FireWire to output video.

There is no such thing as a 'cable' that magically transforms analog video into a digital serial stream for either USB or FireWire use.

You will need to get an analog video to DV converter.

The best solution is to return that camera and get one that has IEEE1394 (FireWire) output.

Duane,

Thanks.... Alright, in lieu of returning my camera (for the moment....) I have thought about this a bit more and have something of a workaround: I borrowed a DVD player/burner and used the a/v-to-RCA cable to record a standard DVD. That worked fine.

Now my issue is: how do I import that content into iMovie? The files associated with the content on the DVD is greyed out. If I infer from iMovie's lack of discussion of the issue, my work around isn't going to work -- as, ultimately, I'd like to convert this content to a QuickTime movie.

Thanks again.
