I have a legacy A1034 Airport and need to do some maintenance. The new Airport Utility that came with Mavericks will not support the unit. The older version of Airport Utility (Ver 6) will not run in Mavericks. What do I need to do to service my older Airports?

All that you can really do is use another Mac that is running AirPort Utility 5.x or even a PC that is using AirPort Utility 5.x.
Argh, I was afraid of that! But why? My Airports (I have a base and one as an extender) works so well!
I guess the bottom line here is that "Why" questions can only be answered by Apple, since only they know the "why" about anything.
My other guess it that Apple might be trying to sell more new AirPorts.
Are you able to borrow a notebook running Windows? I have the same model AE as you do. I've been successful with XP, Win 7 and of course my old iBook.
I agree that's a good unit. Hope you find a computer for the maintenance.

I made my complaint:
Angry that you broke my ability to configure my airport with Mavericks.
Angry that I had to jump through a lot of hoops to find that out.
1. Airport service and report (instead of that link you could have put It won't work)
2. Several links from there.
3. read through many pages to try to find the software or firm ware that might help.
4. Finally came to the conclusion that there was no combination of 802.11g and Mavericks.
5. Went to community support where one of you customers revealed "It won't work"
6. Googled it and found a page that would make it work.
7. Decided I would just buy a new router.
8. Will go spend money angrily to update the thing.

Seriously now I need to buy a new Airport because I upgraded to Mavericks? This blows. Have been trying to fix all kinds of stuff. All my video projects also updated to an identical date... great.
I got around this by installing a lean version of 10.6 Snow Leopard in a Virtual Machine in Oracle VM Virtualbox (which is free) to use the old Airport Utility. Just a note, once you've set your virtual machine, in the network settings before you run the VM OSX change the network type from NAT to Bridged so you get the same LAN range IP and can see the legacy airport devices in the scan. I can understand why Apple have done this, the earlier airport hardware is over 10 years old, technology moves on, you have to draw a line with backward comparability before you can move forward... Just my two pennies' worth :)
Thanks. I also love Virtualbox, have been using it since I was working at Sun Microsystems. I just upgraded both my Time Capsule and my Airport. I didn't realize how old they were. Now at least I can back up my wife's laptop too with the 1TB. Thanks for responding, all good now. -Sean
