Without the original discs you can't. You can contact Apple about purchasing replacement discs.

You don't need to complete re-install the OS. You could make a new admin account for her, and use that new admin account to delete any and all other accounts on there, even wipe the free space afterwards if you want to be sure everything you had on it is gone.

Otherwise, you will need to get an installation disc. In some cases, if you call Apple they can ship out (for a small fee) replacements of the original media that came with your machine. Or you can look for one on Amazon or some other online site.

In response to Michael Black, here are some links to operating systems comparable with the PowerBook. All of them vary in price and age. Another option would be finding a compatable version of Linux, that would be the best free idea.

I had the same problem and because I could not locate the original disc, I had to destroy both macbook pro and power book G4 before throwing them away. originally I wanted to resale them. I have to admit that other PC brands IOS are easier to handle in case they change ownership. I am about to get rid of my IMAC and I guess I will need the installation disk. isn't it?
