Deleting Windows Virus on Bootcamp Partition

I have a virus on my bootcamp partition. One option to delete this virus is to run Microsoft Defender Offline. Per MS's instructions:

To use Windows Defender Offline, you need to follow four basic steps:

  1. Download Windows Defender Offline and create a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
  2. Restart your PC using the Windows Defender Offline media.
  3. Scan your PC for malicious and other potentially unwanted software.
  4. Remove any malware that is found from your PC.

My question is, if I create a DVD or USB flash drive for this purpose, how can I boot my iMac using this Windows formatted drive so as to execute the Defender Offline program?

Will it show up as an boot option from the Bootcamp screen (holding down Alt key during boot?)

If I just boot into Windows from Bootcamp screen as normal, is there an option that will force the computer to boot from the DVD or USB flash drive rather than the Windows installation?

Is there a better way for me to deal with this problem?

Thanks for any advice and assistance.

I suggest installing Malware-Bytes Antimalware on Windows. Get it at http://www.malwarebytes.org it's free and it works well in detecting viruses and removing. Once you have removed all the viruses, proceed and install Microsoft Security Essentials it has live-protection which should detect malicious downloads as soon as they are downloaded in your Mac on Windows.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, but I already have a virus and I doubt I can successfully install any anti-virus software on an already infected Windows partition. I may be wrong, though. I will look into it.

I have been running Microsoft Security Essentials for a long time. It is constantly updated, which disappoints me that it didn't detect the virus when I was infected.

Update: I figured out how to boot the iMac using the DVD I had loaded with Windows Defender Offline. I was able to run the full scan of the partition, but it didn't detect any viruses or malware.

Just ****!

Thanks!

I suggest trying Malwarebytes, it has some countermeasures that hide it against the malware running on your Windows side. If you are able to connect successfully to the internet you will get the malware definitions and then run a full scan on your C: drive.
