smart playlist with no stars don't work anymore

Since iTunes 11.1, my smart playlists sorting by zero stars no longer show any content other than what I have purchused in iTunes.

A lot of my older music, and audio I use for work (I'm a ESL teacher) is ripped from CD. None of these playlists work now.

I was hoping it would be fixed with the shift into Mavericks..... but it wasn't.

Anyone else have this problem? Or better yet, a solution?
